Grand Canyon Hike
This may take a while to load but the pictures are pretty cool. Check out the pics at the bottom, they generally load faster.
We camped out at the top and took the South Kaibab down the next morning. When we woke up the temperature was around freezing. By early morning we were farther down the canyon and it had heated up to 70 or so. We passed a sign that read "Warning: Do not attempt to hike to the bottom and back in one day. Many die each year trying." That was exactly what we planned to do but it was winter so we knew the heat wouldn't be as bad and we were carrying plenty of water and food. We hiked all the way to Phantom Ranch (7.1 miles going from 7200 ft. elevation to 2546 ft. elevation) and had our lunch at the bottom. After cooling off in the river (it was now about 90 degrees) and filling up our empty water bottles we headed back up. I think I drank about 4 liters and I could have used more. The round trip was 14.2 miles and a vertical difference of 1.8 miles in about 9 hours. It really kicked my butt.
Here's a pic of the celebration after the hike. Look closely at the guy on the car.
Yes, the guy did fall through the window. Here's a close up. Notice that he didn't drop his beverage.
And the aftermath. The rental car company shall remain nameless.
