| The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII was introduced in January 2001. Ever since the introduction of the original Evolution I in October 1992, the Lancer has continually improved. Horsepower has steadily increased with each version and is now around 280bhp. The styling of each version has also become more aggressive. The Evo VII, however, has a more sophisticated style compared to that of the Evo VI. A few of the reasons the Lancer Evo VII is as good as it is are the ACD and AYC. The ACD (Active Center Differential) has three modes: Tarmac, Gravel, and Snow. The different settings allow the driver to make the car handle the way he wants it to. The AYC (Active Yaw Control, introduced on the Evo IV) splits torque between the two rear wheels helping the driver take the car through the optimum path through the corner. Recently, the Lancer Evolution GT-A was developed. It incoperates all the best attributes of the Evo series but adds a new element: an automatic transmission-the first in the series. In spring 2003, the Lancer Evo VIII will be released in the U.S., entering the Lancer into a whole new era of Evolution. |
