X-Com UFO

Graphics 3/5
Graphics were about average for the time, they were acceptable with few glitches.

Playcontrol 10/10
Controlling the avatars was an easy job, and I never had any problems moving them around or using any special things they might have. Of course, if you compare the game to games released in 2008 it is a bit clumsy, but at the time, it was one of the best if not the best turn-based tactical game.

Interface 9/10
The game was easy to use, simple interface, not too many sub-menues, a good balance between detailed and keep it simple interace. There were a few minor bugs, but they were quickly resolved with the first patch.

Fun 12/15
The game was good and fun, but there were many other games who were much more entertaining than this one. The game is nonetheless entertaining, especially those who likes turn-based games with a strategic part on the large scale. I personaly loved it, but I know there were much more entertaining games out there at that time, so why it only receives a 12 out of 15 rather than a perfect score.

Depth 8/10
A game with a good depth. Depth in time being required to finish the game, depth in character progression, depth in equipment, etc. The only area that it was limited in is the amount of enemies it had, but I guess they could only have such amount things in that small game at that time without making it too big or too long to make... Also, there was little to no story, it was an almost pure tactical game with some background, but no story... quite open ended actually.

Story  3/10
The major flaw in the game, it had practically no story. The short version is that aliens have been spotted, have began experimenting with live species and attacking humans, and as the president of the multinational forces, your job is to seek out their bases of operations and destroy them. That is about it, there are no paths to take other than attempt to find hidden alien bases, attack them successfully, and then go to the moon to finish this game. No videos, no scrolling text, or speech to tell you a story. Of course, there are far worse cases in the game industry, that is why I give it a 3 instead of a zero.

Idea 5/5
No one ever attempted such a game, so this was an original idea, a new one, so a big five on five here. It is also an excellent idea to have a game where you have the world's best trying to fight off the invaders while keeping an eye out for treacherous countries who would ally themselves with the aliens.

Non-linearity 10/15
The game is very open ended, even at the beginning of the game. Also, each game your play will be different aside from equipment, the type of enemies encountered and the type of vehicles encountered. A good game that can be replayed a couple of times, but not something you would play continously though. The fact that you can progress differently in each game is quite interesting, but the story remains the same, you always need to go kill foozle at the end, why it only receives only a ten.

Interpretation 13/15
The guys who made the game did a good job interpreting the idea in a computer game... if that game was remastered visually (its audio too) with modern technology to make it a beautiful turn-based movie quality game, that would make it almost the best game ever. They could have added a bit more stuff to it, maybe the Greys being weak physically had robots to do their biddings, not just alien slaves or genetically altered beings, maybe they could have added more, but the limited storage capacity of the stockage systems limited that at the time so I guess this was one of the main reason they did not add more stuff in the game.

Completion 4/5
The game was complete but had a few bugs at first, but they were quickly fixed with patches. A quite complete game if you ask me.

77/100 A must buy for all turn-based tactical game fans out there. You must try this game once in your life. It's a classic and a sort of pioneer too.
