Notes

The Nebula class was fielded in the 2350's to provide a smaller, more numerous counterpart to the Galaxy class then under construction. The design was intended to parallel that of the Galaxy class as closely as possible in order to allow for many identical systems to be installed in both classes; this has resulted in significant improvements in the design and construction processes for the Nebula class and thus allowed comparatively high numbers to be fielded. Compared to the Galaxy class the Nebula has a more compact shape - the engineering hull is mounted directly to the underside of the saucer section, a measure which saves some 200 metres in length.

The major difference in capability is the addition of a prominent housing aft of the saucer section of the Nebula class. This enables the vessel to carry any one of a variety of special equipment pods - current models include a high capacity sensor pod, an enhanced weapons pod, a colony transport pod, an emergency field hospital unit, or a science laboratory pod. Although the basic Nebula design has approximately 80% of the capability of a Galaxy class vessel in most areas, the addition of the mission pod brings that figure up to 95% or more in that specific area. This flexibility actually allows the Nebula design to accomplish almost almost identical missions despite its smaller size.

In service the Nebula class has proved highly satisfactory, and in many ways these ships form the backbone of Starfleets exploratory and scientific programs. Like the Galaxy class they have received regular upgrades to their systems, most notably a new Warp Core design. With the advent of the threats from the Romulan, Dominion and Borg, Starfleet invested in sixty seven new enhanced weapon pods for the Nebula class; most of the vessels now carry this as a standard item.

This particular vessel utilizes a battlepod designed by Shadow Operations unit of Starfleet Intelligence. The key feature in the success of the design is still the interchangeable pod, now designated Multi-Mission Pod (MMP), which has been redesigned to allow the installation of the most advanced equipment in Starfleet. The various MMP's are designated Type-1 through Type-5 (Ticonderoga has the equivilent of a Type-6 because it is Shadow Ops designed) and have a tradeoff between computer, sensors and weapons systems.

The weapons pods are intended for military applications and include enhanced resolution tactical sensors, but lack the many advanced scientific scanning systems. All pods contain an auxiliary reactor core to supplement the power required by the various equipment contained within. Also, each pod features a tie-in to a third computer core in the secondary hull dedicated and optimized for multimission profiles.

The Ticonderoga represents the third model modification of the Nebula-class. Though similar in the appearance, Ticonderoga has been redesigned from the inside. The space frame has been strengthened, and all computer and sensor systems have been updated and, for this particular vessel, surveillance and intelligence gathering sensors have been added.

Background

The Ticonderoga was designed and built specificially for Shadow Operations. She is the 21st vessel in her class to be built in 12 years. She was commissioned on Stardate 50866 (roughly Stardate 9705.20 in game time, or the year 2374) and was placed under the command of Captain Shoshana Kryderman. She commanded the Ticonderoga during her time trials and shakedown cruise.

Kryderman led the ship during the attack on the Dominion shipyards at Taurus III as part of her official shakedown, acting as an intelligence-gathering vessel. She saw limited combat and returned to Spacedock for repairs shortly thereafter. Captain Kryderman was transferred after that and the ship was turned over to Shadow Ops for a new command crew.

Captain Zem Renasu, the first Bajoran captain in Starfleet, commanded Ticonderoga for her first three missions with Shadow Ops. He was transferred in the middle of the Dominion War to command a captured Cardassian space station called Apachok Nor (in 2376) and command of Ticonderoga went to Rick Tafner, Zem's first officer who was promoted to captain to take his place.

Ticonderoga is equipped with a new tactical response ship called USS Dragonslayer, which is equipped with a small Klingon cloaking device, loaned to Starfleet. This ship is ideal for Away Missions, leaving Ticonderoga free to hide, tend to other business or to provide long-range sensor and telemetry data to Dragonslayer via the sophisticated sensors and communications equipment in the ship's battlepod.

USS DRAGONSLAYER NCC-7579-B

USS Dragonslayer

The Tunimba-class ship is bigger than a runabout, but smaller than a scout or escort class ship. It is designed to be fast, manuverable and equipped with heavy firepower. It is designed with modular components for multi-purpose missions capabilities. Currently designed modules include medical, scientific, security, cargo, special ops/intelligence and engineering.

GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

MISSION MODULES

All of the mission modules contain specialized computer cores/processors specific to their task.

NOTE: All mission modules are plugged into the top dome of the ship, and several port and starport plug-in conduits.

Details of USS Dragonslayer

The Dragonslayer was commissioned in 2376 with five other Tunimba-class ships from the Antares Shipyards. She was specially fitted for use in the Shadow Operation special forces unit of Starfleet Intelligence.

She is outfitted with several unique options other Tunimba-class ships do not have:

USS Dragonslayer has been assigned to the USS Ticonderoga as a special missions vehicle. She is standardly equipped with the special operation/intelligence module, but all other modules will also be available aboard Ticonderoga.
