A year later Jahkar was born. After a few months K'nara found Nelvak to be a kind and gentle man who truly loved her. Fearing his child and mate would be killed by the Romulans if they learned of his involvement with K'nara, Nelvak arranged for K'nara and the surviving Klingons to escape.
After being freed she returned to Klingon space with her newborn son, Jahkar, and found herself and her young son an outcast in Klingon society. She was considered a Romulan collaborator and her son an abomination -- the product of a union between a Romulan and Klingon. Dishonored and hated, K'nara tried to remain in the Empire, but by the time Jahkar was 10, they were finally driven out and went to live on the Federation colony of Toras III. There, Jahkar tried to grow up as normally as he could, but things weren't always much better than they'd been in the Empire. The human children also disliked him and this made his life as difficult as it had been among Klingons.
At age 18, Jahkar went off and joined the Federation Marines. He completed Marine Recon Special Forces training. He first saw action during the Cardassian withdrawl from Bajor where his unit was assigned as peacekeepers at the end of the Occupation. Later, his unit saw heavy combat against the Klingons when they invaded the Arcanus sector and dissolved the Khitomer Accords. Jahkar became good in hand-to-hand combat and was an ace shot with a sniping rifle. He scored nearly 28 confirmed kills during his service in the war against the Klingons.
After the conflict with the Klingons ended, Sergeant Jahkar was loaned to Starfleet's Shadow Operations where his skill as a commando and sniper would be employed.
He first served on the USS Avenger, where he became involved romantically with his superior officer, Dara Illia. They later transferred to Bravo Squad where they were married. They recently had a child together (Kedanya) and Jahkar has adopted Dara's son, Tajel. About the same time as Kedanya was born, the two transfered to USS Ticonderoga.
In 2376, at the height of the Dominion War, differences between Jahkar and Dara prompted them to divorce. Dara went on to become the commanding officer of Apachok Nor, which was an ideal situation for Jahkar so he could see his daughter between missions.
After the Dominion War, Jahkar was prompted by Colonel Williams to take his officer's test and he passed, earning the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. After a couple missions aboard the USS Valkyrie, Marine Force Alpha's home base, Jahkar was promoted to 1st Lieutenant in late 2377.
