Mrs. Tatom's TechnoKids Club

TechnoKids is an afterschool program funded through Title 1 and At Risk.  This program focuses on the four academic areas from our Michigan Curriculum-Langauge Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. There will be three sessions of TechnoKids this school year (fall, winter, and spring). Each session contains 10 workshops based on an essential question for students to explore.

7. How do I hear different kinds of sounds? March 11-Thursday
8. What is the best way to measure length, mass, and capacity? March 15-Monday
9. How does light travel? March 18-Thursday
10. How do we use nature's gifts? March 22-Monday

 
Program Components...
Guided Instruction- whole group with snack 3:19-3:45
Students will come in the media center and be posed with the essential question.  There will be a short discussion as students have a healthy snack and juice.  Students will then have the opportunity to choose their first station.  They will switch stations every 10-15 minutes.
Website Exploration-Learn something new!-small group station
Prior to class the teacher will search for websites relating to the essential question and create a hotlist webpage for students to explore relating to the essential question.
Research station-Make it take it-small group station
A table with a variety of books, posters, and other materials will be set up for students to use.  They can make a book, poster, write a letter, etc. to document the new knowledge they are gaining.
Computer Choice-small group station
Computer programs will be chosen to match the essential question and content area.  Kettering has a variety of educational software that has been purchased over the last several years.

Leap Frog Products-small group station
Leap Frog Products will be put out to match the essential question and content area.  These products include Imagination Desk, Leap Pads with virtually hundreds of titles, Talking Globes, Geosafaris, Twist and shout Math, Twist and Shout Spelling, and Phonics Desks.

Guided Instruction-Wrap Up- whole group 4:45-5:00
Students will share something new they have learned relating to the essential question and what technology they used to assist their learning.
