Magnets

Magnets work in water.

Books teach us about magnets.

A compass always point north.

We can explore how magnets work.

We can make a model of a bridge.

We can use the internet to study.
Essential question:  What are magnets and how are they used in everyday life?
Nakeya:  Magnets attract metal shavings and we use them to separate sand and metal.
Kelcie:  If a teacher drops paper clips on the floor, she can use a magnet to pick them up fast.
Macy:  Magnets are made from magnetite and they can attract or repel each other.
Emmalee:  One kind of magnet is called a permanent magnets because it always works.
John:  Another kind of magnet is called temporary magnets.
Patrick:  Electromagnets are temporary magnets.
Robert:  A compass always points north because of the Earth's magnetic field.
Marissa:  TVs use magnets.
Cory:  Some people use magnets on their refrigerators.  You sould never put magnets by a computer.
Essential question:  How do we use charged materials in a safe way?
Leeann:  We use charged materials and special equipment to use electromagnets.
Dominique:  When you make a magnet with a battery, wire, and nail don't hurt yourself.  Don't spill water on it.
Dwayne:  We used electricity for things like TV and video games.
Logan:  Do not put water on an electrical fire.  Don't touch live wires.
Erik:  Don't climb trees by wires.
Essential question:  How do we find answers to the questions we have?
Cameron:  We can go to the library and read books.
Ciara:  We can use computers and go online.
Danielle:  We can do tests and explore.
Samantha:  We can ask people and do interviews.
Marvin:  We can make models to help us learn.
Johnathan:  We can do an experiment.
