FIRST GRADE
READ, READ, READ to your child and have them read to you!

*Make sure your child knows all their letters and sounds (especially the different sounds vowels make).  Work on blends (sh, ch, th, etc.) and chunks (at, ight, ould, etc.)

*Increase the amount of words your child can read.  Make flash cards of the high frequency words in your homework kits…make sure your child can read and spell them correctly.

*Before dinner have your child sit down for 5-10 minutes and write as many words as they can.  In just a few short weeks you will be amazed at how many new words they have learned.  This also gives you a few minutes of quiet time!!!
