FIFTH GRADE

This year your child will be taking the MEAP (Michigan Education Assessment Program) test in science and social studies. 

TEST TAKING SKILLS 

*In your homework kit is a science and social studies “Quiz Show” book.  Use the questions to play at home.

*Use the Science Experiment chart in your homework kit and do many science experiments at home.

*Use the Core Democratic Values and Constitutional Principles in homework kits at home to help with creating rules and making family decisions.

At Kettering the MLPP (Michigan Literacy Progress Profile) and Edvision are used to evaluate each student’s instruction level, plan for classroom instruction, and to evaluate student learning.

Although language arts instruction varies based on the needs of each individual student, in 5th grade these are the areas of focus for mastery learning…

(guided reading, independent reading, writing, and phonics)

The Accelerated Reader program tests kids on books at their independent reading level.
 

 

MATH CURRICULUM
 

Our new math program called Investigations.  This program is aligned with the Michigan Mathematics Curriculum.  Keeping in mind that no one math program reaches all learners, many supplemental materials are used by our teachers to promote success for all! 

Accelerated Math program is available for grades 1-5.
