Glad That It's You

Well it used to be me
That he called every night
It used to be me
That made his world right
But that was a year ago
And it's today I know
It can never be again
And though my heart still cries
With feelings I can't fight
He can never be my man

If it couldn't be me
I'm glad that it's you
If it couldn't be me
That he runs to
I'm glad that it's you
He tells all his dreams to
Since it couldn't be me
I'm glad that it's you

I was his mate for a while
You were a sister to him
Now the roles are reversed
As old feelings grow dim
But I can't be mad at you
And I know that it's true
With you he seems to belong
And though I just can't stand
He's no longer my man
I know that this isn't wrong

If it couldn't be me
I'm glad that it's you
If it couldn't be me
That he runs to
I'm glad that it's you
He tells all his dreams to
Since it couldn't be me
I'm glad that it's you

I still want to be friends
And I still care
I want you to know
That I'll be there
I feel no enmity
What's happened is fine
And though I still think back
To when he was mine

If it couldn't be me
I'm glad that it's you
If it couldn't be me
That he runs to
I'm glad that it's you
He tells all his dreams to
Since it couldn't be me
I'm glad that it's you

Since it couldn't be me
I'm glad that it's you

I wrote this song a year after my breakup with my ex, to let his current girlfriend know that I'd never stop being friends with her just because she was dating the man I was still in love with. Even if she might never see this song.
