In this part of our trip, we moved out of Rotherhithe and travelled to Edinburgh in Scotland Scotland is the home of my paternal ancestors, the McDermaids Scotland is also the home of Alanas paternal ancestors, the McLarens (though her last name is Law - for the time being ;) ) My branch of the McDermaid clan comes from Millport, a seaside town on a tiny island just off the West coast of Scotland) Alana still has relatives in Kilsythe, halfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh. While I was living in Rotherhithe, I found out that some of my distant relatives once lived just accross the road from us!!! The house is long gone, replaced by a housing estate, but it is amazing to think that I came halfway across the world and found a place to live which turned out to be right accross the road from my distant relative! On our trip to Edinburgh we stopped in Wales to visit my school friend Rachel, then Kilsyth in Scotland, to visit Alanas relatives. |

| Before actually leaving Rotherhithe, we went for a trip to Essex to visit Alans cousin, Vanessa, and her partner, Stephen. |

| ... the three of us (and Sebastian the dog) all went for walk through the countryside. Here is a church for Saint Nicholas that we came across on the way. |

| Pausing outside a little old country pub for a rest and a photo. After this we paused inside for a rest for a few hours! |

Kilsythe, where lots of Alanas Rellies live. A snow storm arrived about five minutes after we did! |

The original miners row in Kilsythe, possibly where Alanas great grandfather lived. Apparently he stowed away in a boat to get to Australia!! |
