Acme, Old Store
Lake Shot
Another store, residence combination. The house had a huge screened front porch. It had been a beautiful place.  Found at Acme, behind the hay bales.
After Acme, I left La.129 which seemed to just cross bean fields. I wanted to stay as close to the water as possible without being on the levee. I had done levee.  The road, La.909,  sunk into a palmetto swamp, one of my favorite atmospheres.
One lake followed another. I would guess the lakes were part of a river system at one time, probably the Black River. Soon I would see the "Mother of all Meanders".
Black River
New Era, Cabin
End of Black River Lake Shot
Old Cabin at New Era. It seemed to be a meeting place. People were gathered on the other side of the cabin. Maybe it was a school bus stop?
This is one of the ends of the Mother of All Meanders, Black River Lake. As seen below, it makes a huge U which I crossed after riding along its side for a while. I say the block was manmade. The Corps at work, no doubt.
It is called an "oxbow" lake because it resembles the shape of an ox's harness.
