I made the turn north at Louisa and headed to Weeks Island, a salt dome, not a real island, a high place in the marsh. Can you see the rails in the picture below. I hadn't before.
When I got to Weeks Island, I stopped to take a break at the little lake which is at the intersection. I noticed a black cloud off in the distance. It was too low and black to be a rain cloud.
The high wind was driving a marsh fire. I had seen one before here. In fact it is in the Cypremort Point Article.
I took one of these pictues from the dock?
I figured it was time to leave. If you don't get burned to death, you could suffocate or have a terrible sinus attack.
Tiny A. reported seeing it in New Iberia.
    The TWL Network in action.
I did make it, so don't worry. I'm sure that after that excitement you don't want to look at more old barns and houses. Settle down.
La.83 just ends in New Iberia when it meets the Avery Island Road. No, we're not going to Avery Island. It cost money to get in and I'm not paying. So, La.83 is through with. You know I missed something, so I'll go back.
The  house and barn above are on the Lady of the Lake Road, connecting 182 with 31, right above Spanish Lake, above New Iberia..  Maybe it's not that old but it's typical. You have to see this stuff to understand Louisiana. You can't speak the language until you know all the words.
This is  my road, La.347, south of Parks, north of St.Martinville. The oaks are a landmark. On either side the picture changes with the seasons.. The oaks are constant. I guess that is why they are a symbol of strength.
As you can see, the weather changed during the ride. What was a crystal blue sky is now gray. The December cycle continues.  Harvest season has ended. Today the wagons are parked. If I'd waited, I would have missed it until next year.
Glad I caught old Mother Nature on one of her "good" days.
                Happy New Year to All
Next Year, This Year, don't wait to Next Year

  (is that clear?)
