La.418 northeast of Simmesport.  Great Levee Road Riding. This one can be taken for its beauty and historical assets or for those more sporting.
More levee riding, on top this time. Below Henderson. This one is long. It can be ridden from Verdunville north to US190. And beyond. It can be very bad in spots where the road has to be on top, south of 190. In many areas, an alternate road runs at its base. I ride the top. The levee can be a challenge and relaxing on the same ride. Just like any Louisiana outing.
La. 124 west of Enterprise. La. Things were looking doubtful. It was getting dark and I was 175 miles from home. Self-questioning comes at this point, then goes. What difference does it make? You're here, deal with it.
La. 1178 connecting Evergreen, La. with US 71.
It rides along Bayou Rouge and the palmetto swamp that borders the bayou.  What an experience I had here. I was riding along at maybe 35 or 40 mph, when these large birds rose off the road and were flying directly in front of me. They could not gain altitude because of the tree ceiling. This went on for a minute or more, I know. It was amazing.  I'm glad they didn't get "scarred" and bomb me.
Gravel road riding west of La. 437, near Folsom, La.
Ride hilly gravel roads for that sense of excitement, wondering if a log truck will come over the rise and splat you right in the middle of that Confederate Flagged radiator.
The levee road above Palmetto, La. and La.10. It is a shortcut to Pocheville, if you need one. Knowing the roads gives me a sense of empowerment. I can get there. I can get there
faster than most without even getting near the speed limit.
La.743, connecting US.190 and La.103 along the Little Teche Bayou..
You are looking at Louisiana Humidity. Post shower steam.
East of Opelousas. I just shake my head in amusement when I see this phenomenom. Some people pay for steam baths. You got to be kidding me. July through mid-September, got all the steam you want. I'll mail you some. Just pay the postage.
Like a welcoming friend, the bridge pulls you across with open arms taking you down another Mississippi lane. I'll never find it again.
That's all right. Somethings are meant to be one-timers.
Moody Roads
I may be reaching here, but there are roads that put me into a  certain mood. Some make me ponder, some are relaxing, some are exhilerating, some defiant, and some amusing. Of course, there are other  moods and other roads.
Take 418 from the east side of the Atchafalaya Bridge on La.1 at Simmesport. Go north and follow the levee. When 418 turns south, don't. Continue staight, following the levee on Claiborne Rd. It will run into 419, continue following the levee. When you come to a 972, turn south and rejoin La.1 Go towards Morganza. You will cross the Spillway stucture. Go through town and toward New Roads. When you see the big high school on the left, turn onto 420 and it follows the levee to intersect with La.10. Take a left toward the ferry or go right into New Roads. Good riding, historical sites, fishing.
