A Friend

If a friend is air,
then take a deep breath.
If a friend is life,
then be afraid of death.

If a friend is metal,
don't let it rust.
If a friend is truth.
then learn to trust.

If a friend is a book,
learn to read.
If a friend is a warning,
better take heed.

If a friend is a flower,
you have to let it grow.
If friend is a river
you have to let it flow.

A friend may take on a different face,
And show up any time or place.
but if a friend is you,
then I will be one too.
