| WinZip files have become a standard way to send files to other people using a common program. Probably the reason for this is .zip files are easy to use, can hold more that one file within, can be made self-extrracting, and a lot of people already have WinZip and probably don't know it. When you zip a file (or several files) you basically are changing the format into one easy package. It's like ordering a bunch of Lego sets from Lego, but all the sets come in one big box. When you open the box you have a bunch of smaller boxes that contain each individual set. You can download a free version of WinZip from this link HERE. You can also make these files self extracting, (Meaning that they will open theirself without need of the WinZip software.) These fiiles have the filename extension .exe . You've probably installed something at one time or another on your computer that came in .exe format. The reason that I use .zip files instead of the self extracting files (although it would be more convenient for the persons downloading) is simple. My web server (Geocities) will not support .exe upload. So it is physically impossible at this point for me to upload these files in any format but .zip. Again if you need to download WinZip evaluation version for free click HERE to goto WinZips website. |
