| Female killerwhales: Is determined once she is about 15-16 ft in length, when she is between 10-13 years of age.The female killerwhale will go into heat several times in a year but mainly reproduce during the summer season.She will give birth to one calf and is gestated (pregnant) for 15 month's.Female killerwhales are called cows. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Male killerwhales: Is determined once he is about 18-20 ft in length, when he would be between 10-13 years of age.Male killerwhales are called bulls and in a pod of killerwhale, there could be one male for every 5-10 females. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A baby killerwhale: Is called a calf and they are suckled by their mother from the underside of her belly until they reach a length of about 10 ft.The mother and family of the calf will care and provide protection for him/her until he/she is able to fend for herself and eating on her own. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Killerwhales are the top predators in our oceans.They're active predators as well as opprotunistic predators.Their diet varies depending on where they are at! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| AntarticRegions:They eat about 67% fish,27% Marine mammals and 6% Squid. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Bering Sea(near Alaska):They eat about 65%fish,20%Squid and 15%Marine mammals. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| (Note however): That food preferences of Resident pods and Transient pods in the North Pacific Region varies!Resident pods diet usally consist of such marine life as salmon,cod,flatfish,hake,herring and smelt. Transient pods diet usually consist of steller sea lions, seals,porpoises,dolphins and whales. |

| Their food intake varies! While most adult killerwhales eat about 3-4% of their body weight per day,fully weaned callves can eat up to 10% of their body weight during what is called their growth periods.Killerwhales can get viral,bacterial and fungal infections.In addition to these they may develop ulcers,skin diseases,tumors,heart disease and respitory disorders. It's even been reported that they can get sick and die of pneumonia symptoms, if left untreated. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| A female killerwhale (Cow) is pregnant for a span of 15 months and gives birth to one baby (Calf). They give birth 2 ways! The baby will either come out tail first or come out head first. |
