FAQS: WHY JOIN A SORORITY?SCHOLARSHIP The primary reason we are here at the University of St. Thomas and the College of St. Catherine is for academic endeavors. The academic portion of your college life is undoubtedly the greatest determinant of future succcess. Work and leadership experiences, along with strong academic performance, play a very important role in today's job market. Employers are looking for students who have academic success along with extracurricular involvement. Sorority members gain hands-on experience from journalism and advertising, to marketing and financing through holding leadership positions within the sorority. The most important objective of sororities is to encourage high scholastic achievement amoung members. Many sororities boast academic excellence with G.P.A.s above 3.0! FRIENDSHIP AND SISTERHOOD An aspect unique to the sorority system is sisterhood. The sisterhood that exists in a sorority is unlike that of any other group experience. Sisterhood is based on intangible principles such as loyalty, respect, support, and understanding for other members. There is a common bon that is unique and very private. You will enjoy the benefits of friendships, which begin while being a new member/pledge, that will continue on much further than college. Our strength comes from individual diversity within our membership. Sisterhood does not require you to conform but to contribute your personal talents to the sorority. We are a group of distinct individuals who, through our goals and traditions, are bound as one. LEADERSHIP The Sorority System at the University of St. Thomas and the College of St. Catherine is dedicated to building future leaders in our society. As a sorority member, you will have many opportunities to become involved in leadership positions. Each sorority has an Executive Board consisting of President, Vice President, Secretary, Inner Sorority Advisor, Treasurer, and Sargent at Arms. There is also the opportunity to serve as a pledge officer/Educator and committee chair. As a sorority member, you will develop critical skills including leadership development, organizational management, and network building that translate into skills that employers demand. You will also develop time management and effective interpersonal communication skills; all of which will make you a strong leader in today's society. SERVICE Lambda Sigma Tau Sorority will be able to provide you with an excellent opportunity to become integrated into student and community life at the Unversity of St. Thomas and the College of St. Catherine. Sorority life offers a wide variety of service and social activities that help to broaden the college learning experience. Service to your community is not only recommended but also required. It is a character-builder, resume-builder, and horizon-broadener. It is irreplaceable and one of the most positive experiences involved in joining a sorority. SOCIAL Along with academics, Sororities were founded as a social organization. Social activities offer Greek members a relaxing break from the daily routine of studying, attending classes, and working. Through participating in events such as formal dinners, exchanges with other fraternities, Homecoming and Formals, sorority women have the opportunity to meet new and exciting people while building life-long friendships. |
