On December 13th, 2002, nine members and two leaders packed their bags, said goodbye to the freezing cold, and headed to the other side of the world, sunny Australia. We were looking forward to the sunny weather and lounging on the beach, and were so happy to finally arrive after a long, tiring flight with its many obstacles. Our first week was spent with Noel, our tour guide from Ando's Outback Tours, who spent the week driving us around the Australian terrain, and teaching us about the Aussie's land and heritage. Our week consisted of activities such as opal mining, boomerang throwing, gold panning, wildlife spotting and many other authentic things. We were sad to say goodbye to the Outback at the end of the week, but ready to settle into the busy city life that lied ahead of us. The last part of our trip was spent with our two close friends, Treena and Alannah. We spent Christmas at the Snowy Mountains, where we learned how to play cricket and rugby, and had a huge Christmas dinner, and then went to Canberra, and saw some sights, like the war memorial and the parliament buildings. We headed out towards Sydney to see the fireworks held their on New Years eve. They were absolutely beautiful and it was an unforgettable experience. Our last couple of days were spent in Sydney, enjoying the sights and relaxing on the beach. We were sad to leave this beautiful country and all its people, but after the long, stressful plane trip, we were certainly glad to finally get home. The trip was such an awesome experience for each one of us, filled with new adventures, lasting memories, lots of fun, and new friends that we'll never forget. |
