General Classroom Rules

1. Absolutely No Food or Drinks (including water bottles) in the room at any time
2. The computers in the room are not to be used or touched except when permission is
assigned by me or a lab assistant.
3. The computers are here to help you learn. They are not here as toys to play with.
Misuse, rough handling, or destruction of equipment will not be tolerated.
4. Absolutely No yelling or loud talking in the room for any reason.
5. When the teacher signals for talking to stop, all talking should stop.
Students are expected to follow all the below procedures. We will practice these procedures
, as a class, during the beginning of the year. The teacher reserves the right to amend this
procedure list at any time.

Procedure for Asking a Question or making a comment

1. Wait until the teachers says, "It's question time."
2. Raise your hand
3. Wait until the teacher calls on you
4. Ask your question or make your comment. Questions and comments should be relevant
to what is being discussed in class at the time. Any questions or comments about personal
issues or other topics may be asked before or after class.

Procedure for an urgent situation

An urgent situation is a problem that occurs outside question time and must be immediately
dealt with. Examples of these situations are an urgent need to go to the bathroom, suddenly
feeling extremely sick, etc.

Procedure:
1. Raise your hand
2. Wait till the teacher asks, "Is this an urgent situation"
3. You answer , "Yes" and tell the teacher what the urgent situation is.
4. Wait for the teacher to give you permission to leave the classroom
5. Leave the classroom with a pass

Procedure for entering the classroom.

1. Line up in a single file line outside the classroom door
2. Wait for the teacher to give permission for the class to enter
3. Proceed in a quiet, orderly manner into the classroom. Absolutely no running,
yelling, or pushing while entering the room
4. Go directly to your seat and take out your book and materials(paper, pencil, etc)

Procedure for leaving the classroom

1. Two minutes before the end of class, start to gather up your books and materials
and place them in your bookbag.
2. Wait till the teacher calls your table
If you don't know what number
your table is, refer to MR.Smart's Class diagram on the home page
3. After the teacher calls your group, stand and leave the class in a quiet way without
yelling, pushing , or causing a disturbance.
4. Proceed to your next class

Procedure for sharpening a pencil

Pencils may be sharpened during the first three minutes of class only.
If you need to sharpen your pencil during this time:
1. Raise your hand
2. Ask the teacher, "May I sharpen my pencil?"
3. If permission is given by the teacher, proceed to the pencil sharpener and sharpen your pencil(s)
4. After you are finished, go back to your seat immediately

Procedure for checking agenda books

The last five minutes of class are reserved for checking agenda books to see whether
students have recorded daily assignments and whether they have recorded them correctly.
During the last five minutes of class, the student should

1. Make sure all daily assignments for the class are written in the proper space in their
agenda book
2. Take out their agenda book and place it on the top, left corner of their desk
3. Wait quietly for a teacher, teachers assistant, or student assistant to check their book.

Procedure for taking an exam

Exams will be given periodically throughout the marking period. There will usually be about
two exams per marking period. During the exam the student is expected to
1. Have all testing materials with them before the test begins (This always includes paper and
a pencil or pen. If it is an open book test, this also includes their textbook and notes)
2. Refrain from talking, getting out of seat, or disturbing others during the test.
3. Refrain from cheating. This includes keeping their eyes on their own paper during the test,
not passing notes or test materials around the room, and using their own book and notes
(If the test is an open book test), also, not looking at their book and notes if it is a
closed book test. Any type of cheating will not be tolerated.

Procedure for turning in Homework

1. Take out homework and place it on the upper left corner of the desk
2. Wait quietly for someone (teacher, assistant, or student assistant) to collect

Procedures for working in groups

Approximately 30% of the students final grade will be based on projects.
These projects will usually be done in groups. While working in groups, the
students are expected to follow all classroom rules and procedures and ,
additionally, are expected to follow the rules for working in groups. The rules
are as follows.

A. Talking in groups: While working in groups, students are allowed to talk and discuss their
work. This does not mean that it is time to socialize. Students are expected to be discussing
the subject of the group work and are expected to keep their voices down to a normal speaking
voice.
B. Group Leaders: A group leader , which will be a student, will be assigned to the group and
will be changed on a weekly basis. During the week that the student leads the group, the
leader will be responsible for
, 1. collecting the homework and groupwork from students
2. reporting on the progress of each student in the work that was assigned. This includes
reporting any students who are not doing the work and are using the time for other activities
