Hello, Salam Alekum, My Name is Jason Smart.
This is my third year teaching at Star International/Universal Academies.
My teaching background includes two years teaching in Los Angeles, California
and my experience at Star International/Universal Academies. I am a certified teacher
with a Bachelors degree from University of California. I am also pursuing my Master
degree in Educational Technology from Michigan State University. I look forward to meeting
all of the parents of my students and developing relationships with them.

OBJECTIVES OF COURSES
. Computer Science/Technology (6th - 9th Grade)
A. To make students aware of the various technologies that exist and how these technologies
affect their lives in the present and in the future. Also, student will learn about the
histories of various technologies and how those technologies changed over time.
B. To enhance students technology skills in the following areas
a. Students will learn how to send and receive e-mail and will learn how to use an
e-mail program (Microsoft Outlook)
b. Students will learn how to use a word processor in order to write and format
letters for various purposes (business letter, informative letter, general
correspondence, etc.)
c. Student will use a spreadsheet program in order to enter and format data,
make charts and graphs, and use data to make well-informed decisions.
d. Students will use software to increase their keyboarding skills; they will
improve their typing speed and accuracy.
e. Student will learn how to make a Web page and post it on the World Wide Web.
They will also learn about various Internet technologies and services.
C. In class, we will discuss various ways that morals and ethics affect our use or misuse
of current computer and other technologies.
For Computer class, we will be using various software, book, and materials. We will be
primarily using Microsoft Office Software for word processing and spreadsheets and
Microtype Pro for Keyboarding skills. For Social Studies, my primary source is the textbook,
"Our World's Story" published by Harcourt Brace.

Students grades will be calculated based on total points earned by that student during the
marking period expressed as a percentage of the total possible points. Percentages for A
through F grades are standard and in accordance with school policy. Two extra credit
assignments worth approximately 40 points will be given out during the marking period.
