Late in the
afternoon
a fire broke
out in a shed that held hot coals from the Opera Building

Out of controll it spread to the Lumber Yard back of the Post Office and then south to the First Baptist Church

From the Opera Building it also spread east consuming
much of the southside of the Lamar square.

Fire Companies were call in from Navada and Carthage and a Fireman from Carthage Wayne Pierce was killed when a door on the back of a Pahlow building blew off.

The fire burned thru the night
