Nominated by the Lamar Jaycees, National Merit Scholar and Boettcher ScholarTim Hume uses his education in Agronomy to farm and market a diverse mix of crops. This includes cannola, sunflowers, and the first commercial plantings of insect resistant corn hybrids. Additionally, Tim has adopted no-till planting and low energy precision application (LEPA) sprinkler irrigation. The reduced tillage drastically lessens soil wind erosion. LEPA irrigation is 95% efficient, versus the 50% efficiency fo flood irrigation.
Tim is very active in the farming industry and his community. He is president elect of the National Corn Growers Association, and has served on the boards of the Colorado Corn Growers Association, Colorado Corn Administrative Committee, and the Plainsman Agricultural Research Center Adivsory Council. He is also a member of the Colorado Farm Bureau, American Soybean Association, Colorado state University Extension Statewide Advisory Council, and the Lamar Jaycees.
Tim is engaged to Leslie Foster, a fourth-grade science teeacher from Amarillo, Texas. They will be married in July, 2001.
