Ching's Guide to being Unemployed
\ 6.24/01 Hi, first, I think being unemployed is a good thing. Who wants to be part of the economy, part of this system, those capitalist pigs? Come on.. it's good to be independent and away from the world. Henry David Thoreau did it didn't he? He lived next to Walden pond for a while. Some pple think it's time to bum, but it's more like time to discover yourself, time to do what you always wanted to do, and time to do what you usually couldn't do b/c of demands of work, school, and/or society not to mention parents if you're still 20 like me. :) Anyway, there's definitely an art to being unemployed. You gotta keep yourself busy all the time so that you don't just become a lazy, unmotivated, DEPRESSED bum.. the last one I think is the worst of all.. bored.. no.. b/c I overcame boredom years ago by refusing to be it... I'd say I'd always have something to do with my time.. even after I gave up TV... like reading, calling freinds, hanging with freinds, watching a movie, renting one, working on this webpage, checking email, exercising, doing tai chi.. taking a walk, writing, come on the list is infinite, how can anyone be bore? It's okay to be idle and relax... but boredom is a blank state.. a negative one.. that's very harmful to your health, b/c it affects your mental health and probably prevents you from wanting to get up and do things.. that can really get you being pessimistic without even a dang thing! I can at least understand cynicism coming from someone's who's actually gone out and seen the world and got beat up! By from a stupid person who just sits at home and does nothing but feel sorry for himself and thinks life is so tragic? Yeah right, just get off your butt. But anyway... there are tons of things to do, so never be bored... okay.. also the art of being unemployed.. try seeking something like a talent or favorite pasttime that you're interested in. Ya know.. b/c like this site... isn't it so that if enough pple visit it I can actually make money or something on it? Not like it's my goal but it would be nice to be able to sustain myself from doing what I love.. or if you love cars or tennis or martial arts.. if you spend all your time doing it.. putting your heart and soul in it, I'm sure you'll be good enough to eventually make a living out of it or you can just sell out and be like everyone else.. get a job.. not having faith in who you are and what you do to get you out of the situation, one way is mundane, the other is enlightening and has the possiblility of making you feel happy and fulfilled. But keep in mind you're talking to a pampered suburban kid who's being supported by his parents. If need so, get a part time job and then do your thing. Also, when unemployed, you shouldn't take it as just a vacation, maybe if you need one go ahead, but when you're not, try not sleeping too late, get up relatively early, so you can still do some productive things, read, exercise, your talent, whatever, as long as it's something that fulfills you and not something like lying in a couch and staring at the ceiling all day which can make some pple content but I'm sure not happy. Hmm.. well. I can't think of anything else to write about this subject b/c I just got a phone call.. also making a schedule for yourself would help too. you just want to be busy, productive, happy, and relaxed when you're unemployed like me. Anything less would make you lazy, restless, discontent.. bored and all those other vices you can run into when you go about unemployment or inbtwn jobs in the wrong way. You don't neces. need a job to keep you from those vices but you simply have to learn how to overcome them on your own. Okay, thank you. :) 1
