La Luciérnaga- argentine tango trio -La Luciérnaga is an Argentine Tango trio based in Seattle, Washington, that made its successful debut in April 2001 at "The Tango Cabaret Night", at China Harbor. Since then the Trio has been performing non-stop at popular venues and festivals in the area of Seattle. During 2002 the band had also traveled twice to perform in the San Francisco Bay Area and Napa Valley, California. The trio is led by argentinean flutist Mirta Wymerszberg, who is also the arranger of the band's repertoire, joined by Jed Miley in spanish guitar, and Scott Teske in double bass. La Luciérnaga, that stands for "the firefly" in spanish, is Mirta's latest tango project, that introduces a wide repertoire of classic tangos, ranging from the old "canyengue" style of the early 1900 to the lyricism of the "Golden Era of Tango" from composers like Maffia, Troilo, and Pugliese. We include among our favorites tangos from Pontier, Gobbi, Plaza and the less popular numbers from Piazzolla's Nuevo Tango. The Trio's live performances blends the intimacy and finesse of the chamber music with the intense expression of the urban music that reflects the life of the big city, the pulse of Buenos Aires. |

Comments and revues... "Friday night, Feb.7, we went down to Columbia City to check out the happenings. At Lottie Motts, a terrific tango trio was playing at 7:30 pm ..... The creative force behind La Luciernaga (which means "firefly" in Spanish) is Mirta Wymerszberg, an Argentinian import who plays lovely Latin American melodies trippingly on her flute. We were inmensly glad...." The Southseattlestar, Seattle " Wow! what a wonderful night of entertainment. The evenings program was so inovative. You guys have so much style and sophistication. Thank you." T. Gibson, Seatlle "We were very, VERY HAPPY with the success of the Gardel Party....We were also pleasantly overwhelmed with the number of people who came, which created a great atmosphere for the evening. WOW! We thank you again for the wonderful and very danceable music your trio provided for us. Everyone loved it! And it was a nice variety of tempos and very expressive."
