In the fifties... more coming soon

To date I have been able to locate secretary's minutes that begin in 1953.  Their public meetings were rather formal by today's standards but a pleasure to read.  The Reverend H.H.Hunsberger  said a prayer at the beginning of the general meetings, which seemed to be every month.  They always had guest speakers and some form of entertainment such as vocalist, instrumentalist, dancers, and once a baton twirler.  The PTA objectives were read in unison and they often sang together.  The executive meetings were held at their homes and were called "Silver Teas".  In 1957 they took a vote to start a school library.  Mrs. Helen Catana was one of the secretary's.  She told me"one year they raised so much money ( $300 from a Country Fair ) that the county/state PTA told them that PTA was not about raising money. The following year they had to reduce their budget to a few hundred dollars".  Sometime in the 50's and into the 60's there was a half day in September for Children's Day at the State Fair.  The children were admitted free.
