DMA Tip(Speed up your disk drive):

Most of the recent hard disks support DMA transfer which when enabled lets you to use the full enhanced capability of your hard disk and also reduces the load on your CPU.

theTweak:

To enable the DMA transfer for you hard disk and cd-drives do the following:-

Right click on My Computer on the desktop, click properties and then under the Device Manager tab click on the Disk Drive and double click on ur hard drive model or generic ide disk type xx..Click on the settings icon and then check the box DMA click OK and restart your computer and again to to the DMA tab and verify that it is selected.

Repeat the steps to enable DMA for CD-ROM drives .

If the DMA option is grayed out or not present then most probably ur drive doesn't support it..

If after restrating your computer ,you find that DMA box has again got disabled then you can give this trick another try after following the steps below:

(Note:These steps involve editing your BIOS settings and must only be used by expert users or users who are confident with their BIOS settings.)

Enter the BIOS setup of your machine during bootup(usually done by hitting the Del key),look for the seeting called UDMA. Change its value to diabled and then follow above steps to enable DMA.

If after enabling DMA and rebboting it you find that the box still reamains uncked then probably your hardware doesn't support this, so just enter BIOS again and change that setting(for UDMA)to its prev value.
