Windows Login:

(Making password compulsory for windows)

Well do you remeber how many times you cursed Microsoft when anybody would access you windows by bypassing the password box just by pressing Esc key or hittiing the "Cancel" button. Certainly you would like to teach those colleagues of yours a lesson by by not allowing them to enter Windows just be pressing "Cancel". They SHOULD enter password to get acces to your windows. Well can we do that? yeah ceratinly and that's pretty easy....Just a simple trick...and this will make it mandatory for anybody to enter the correct password before entering in your Windows.....

What do you need:

a)Windows 98 setup files  b)Basic knowldge of Windows and finally c) Some commom sense and a bit of Guts.

the Trick

Well this trick though simple involves the manual maipulation of your registry settings....if you don't know what registry is or if you would rather like to play it safe the download a file here. This will automatically make all the changes in your registry and go to the last step involvin control panel.

Here are the steps for wannabe geeks:

*Run regedit.exe (or regedit32.exe on some machines)

*Next browse to HkeyLocalMachine\Network\Logon

*Rt. Click in the data window area(one on rt side). In new click Dword value.Name it as MustBeValidated.

*Select the value you just created and rt. click and then select modify.Enter the value 1 and click ok.

*Then go to Control Panel. Click on Network.Click Add button in the window that appears.Next click on the Client. Selct Microsoft and then select Microsoft Family Logon and click OK.(you MAY need windows 98 setup files to continue.Just point to the folder where they are when it prompts you for that).Next select Microsoft Family Logon in the Primary Network Logon .

Warning:

You might not be able to access your system after this is done if you don;t know the password. to play safe, just add another user before rebooting your system and ...ENJOY.

PS:There is still a small and simple way out there to defeat this. Just find for yourself.
