UPMA KOZHUKATTAI:
Rice=1cup
Red chillies=3
Cumin seeds=1tsp
Curry leaves=few
Groundnut=1tbs
Asafoetida=a pinch
Mustard seeds=1/4tsp
Urud dal=1/2tsp
Coconut=2tbs
Oil=2tsp
Salt to taste
Grind the rice,cumin seeds in a blender and grind into coarse pieces.
In a heated pan add oil and add dals, red chillies, groundnut, mustardseeds,
curry leavesand asafoetida and fry for a minute then add 3cups of water and
salt. Allow the water to boil. Once water boils, add the rice mixture to
it and mix thoroughly. Allow it to cook for 5 minutes in a low heat.
Switch off the gas and keep aside. Take idli plates and place a drop
of oil in each idli mould and spread it over the entire mould. Make
small balls with hand from the rice mixture. Keep the Uppuma balls
in the plates, and steam it in the cooker for 10 mts.
Serve hot with coconut chutney.
