Toor dal=1/2 cup
Garlic=1
Mustard seeds=1/4 tsp
Coriander leaves(finely chopped)=1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds=1/4tsp
Curry leaves=few
Oil=2tsp
Turmeric powder=1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder=1/2tsp
Chopped Onion=1/2cup
Chopped Tomato=1/2cup
Brinjal=3
Tamarind paste=1/4tsp
salt to taste
Cook the dal in a pressure cooker with turmeric powder and garlic.
Once the dal is cooked, smash it well.
Cut the brinjal into large pieces slightly larger than bite sized pieces.
In a heated pan add 2 tsps of oil and add fenugreek seeds and mustard seeds .
When the seeds splutters add onion, tomato and fry for a minute.
Add the vegetable and stir it well.
Then add chilli powder, salt and asafoetida and mix it well with
1/4 cup of water.
Allow it to boil the mixture.when the vegtable is cooked,add the dal
and stir it well.
Add tamarind juice and close the lid and allow it to boil for few minutes.
Finally add coriander leaves and curry leaves.
