Rice=1cup
Toor dal=1/2cup
Tamarind=small lemon size
Potato=2
Green peas=1/4cup
Onion=1/2cup
Corinader seeds=1 1/2tsp
Red chilli=8
Fenugreek seeds=1/4tsp
Urad dal=1/2tsp
Bengal gram=1tbs
Cinnamon=small piece
Cloves=2
Dry coconut=1 1/2tbs
Cashews=2tbs
Oil=4tsp
Salt to taste
Boil the rice and dal in 4cups of water.
Soak the tamarind in a cup of water for 10 minutes.
Extract the juice from the tamarind.
Fry the dry coconut(OR USE THE FRESH COCONUT AND DRY IT IN THE OVEN)
in a pan till brown.
Add red chilly, coriander seeds, bengalgram and urad dal and fry till golden brown.
Grind this mixture into a fine paste.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add onion,potatoes and greenpeas and fry it well.
Add the tamarind juice, turmeric powder and salt and allow it
to boil for few mintes.
Add the grinded mixture and boil it for few more with the lid on.
Add the boiled rice and mix it well.
Finally add the fried cashews.
Serve it with appalam or onion raita.
