Yui's Vital Statistics:
Name: Hongo Yui
Age and Birthday: 15
(at time of the story), born October 26, 1977 (cool, she's only 19 days younger
than me!)
Blood Type: AB
Birthplace: Tokyo, Japan
First appears in:
Episode 1 of the anime series
Blood Type: AB
Height: 162 cm -->
5'3"
Family: Mother, father (she's an only child like me)
Hair Color:
Blond
Eye Color: Blue, maybe a tinge of gray
Personality:
(From Tasuki no Miko's manga
translation, this is what Watase Yuu had to say about Yui):
"Appears older
than her age. She is very grown-up at times for a 15 year old. Confident, always
prompt, doesn't like things that aren't clearly black and white. Because she is
hard-headed, she will NOT forgive betrayal. Is partially strong but inside a
part of her really wants to depend on people."
Yes, yes, but what is she good for?
Without Yui
there'd be no plot twist, and Fushigi Yuugi would have ended at episode 8. And I
don't like her, so I can't see what good she does for the series (except for
prolonging it, and letting me see more of Nuriko-sama - which is A Good Thing
(tm)).

When I started this page I had a hard time
thinking of something nice to say about Yui. I used to dislike her quite a lot,
even though I understand on some level why she did the things she did in
the series. However, after seeing most of the second FY OVA, I've come to like
and respect Yui a whole lot more. Here we get to see Yui as she really is,
without the twisted effects of manipulation and ill-fortune clouding her
personality and judgment. She really does deserve a friend as loyal and
good-hearted as Miaka, for she gives it all back in spades.
