Personality:
From Tasuki no Miko's home office in Cucamunga, here's Watase
Yuu's take on Chichiri: "An elusive, mysterious person who
wears a mask and is always wandering. Can be silly or
serious." A neutral character who doesn't break the Suzaku
Seishi stereotype. On the surface, Tamahome and Hotohori may seem
the leaders but he is the leader behind the scenes who looks
after them and counsels them. (He is the adult who looks after
the boys) He uses various spells taught to him by Taiitsukun.
Having no selfish desires, he keeps rather distant from ordinary
men which probably makes him hermit-like."
My own thoughts:
Personally, I didn't get much from the series about Chichiri's
personality. Other then the fact that he is kind of rude in the
beginning when he tells Miaka that "innocent people will
die." if she wasn't responsible for her actions. The poor
guy is scarred emotionally for life, but he's very strong to have
been able to pull through it and still be there for Miaka and the
rest. I mean, how many of us have the resilience to be able to
say, "yes, I've had a hellish experience, and I carry around
the weight of my guilt every day, but sure I'll listen to your
problems and give you advice."? Rock of Gibraltor? {I've
seen Chichiri described as having the most together and calm
personality, doesn't flip out, etc...I don't see it. I think he's
in SD form often enough that his reactions to various events are
not all that calm but often rather humorous. Just how
"together" is he, really?}
However (and here's where I reverse my position entirely)... Chichiri can be very sensible, practical, and logical, and is a very good source for advice. He definitely shows the wisdom of those extra few years he has over the other Seishi, coupled with his experiences. I guess I do see it after all... *sighs* No wonder my friends have a crush on him!
At any rate, Chichiri's the only magician on the Suzaku side, and God knows the shichiseishi need a magician to even stand a chance against Nakago. The gang definitely needs his wise and strong shoulder to lean on (or cry on) in times of trouble, and his cool-headed thinking has gotten them through a crisis more than once.
A common utterance: "NO DAAA!" (and variations thereof ^^)
