Neela and Sadie are probably the two most spoiled members of our family. With a large backyard to play in and full run of the house, no area is sacred or off limits to these two princesses. As you can see from the picture below, even our bed becomes theirs once we are out of it for more then 5 minutes.

Neela

Our first Husky was Neela. While in New Jersey we went to the Popcorn Zoo which is a federally licensed rescue zoo, providing a refuge for sick, handicapped, injured, abused and abandoned animals that can not be returned to their natural habitat. After walking through the zoo, we went to the dog kennels. There we found Neela. She had escaped from her humans yard and was found wandering in the parking lot of a shopping center. Eventually the owners came to the Popcorn Park and were told it would be around $400 to take her home. The fee covered shots, spaying, etc. Her owners decided that this was too much to spend and told them to keep her. They were then told that they could do a normal adoption which would be only $125. Again they said it was too much and they didn't want her.

Douglas had been looking for a Copper Husky for years, and Stephanie decided right then and there, that she had found Doug's Father's Day Present. After waiting a day for the application to be approved, we took her home. From the minute she got in the car, she had us wrapped around her paw. Stephanie, who always claimed to not be a dog person, was Neela's biggest challenge. Needless to say, she now has Stephanie totally hooked, even spending hours on end just brushing her. Neela still hasn't gotten Steph to allow dog kisses, but she's trying.

Sadie

The way we found Sadie, was quite a different story. Since Stephanie's birthday was approaching, Doug decided to get her a kitten, since she had to give hers away when we moved to New Jersey. While looking in the paper for a kitten, Doug saw an ad:

SIBERIAN HUSKIES, AKC, ADULTS, 2 females and 1 male. ALSO HUSKY/PYRENNES MIX PUPPIES. (5) All free to good homes.

We ended up driving an hour south of Rockford to see the Huskies, and brought Neela with us. We figured that Neela would pick the one she wanted, since it was going to be her pal. When we got there, there was actually FIVE adult huskies, and Sadie made an immediate impact on us. From her howl, to the way she interacted with Neela, we knew she was the one. Unfortunately, the kennel they were kept in hadn't been cleaned in a few weeks and she was in desperate need of a bath (or three). We ended up giving her a bath when we got home, and then taking her to PetSmart the next morning for some professional help!

Sadie has taken her place as the second princess of the house, and her and Neela are inseperable. They seem to be connected at the hip, constantly found sitting, laying or sleeping next to each other, often in the same exact posistion.

Yes they even take over the couch too!

The little one next door loves to torment the princesses. At least they pretend to be tormented by her!
