Chapter 14:  Grasshoppers and Wannabe Britney Spears

So what are we doing tonight? Howie asked Kass as they boarded the bus.

We arent doing anything, Kass replied.  Its girls night tonight.

Thats right, Juliet said as she and Brian got on.  No boys allowed.

You mean youre leaving me alone tonight? Brian asked in mock hurt.

You wont be alone.  Howie will keep you company, Kass offered.

I guess its just us, Howie said to Brian.

Our girls dont love us anymore, D.  I think I may cry.  Hold me! Brian exclaimed as he threw his arms around Howie.

Wow, I think I got on the bus at the wrong time, Nick said coming up behind them.

Brian quickly let go of Howie.  The two looked at each other then looked at the expression on Nicks face.

What?  Cant a guy hug his friend? Brian asked then walked off.

Okay, Nick said.  Anyway, whats this about having a girls night tonight?

Its to catch up with Anya and to discuss the possible formation of our old group, Kayla said, joining the group.

What old group? Howie asked.

We had a singing group and AJ thinks we should start it again, Kayla explained.

That is a good idea.  You could be our opening act, Nick commented.

Precisely my point, AJ said, hopping up the steps, Anya, Kevin and I close behind.

And a god point it is, I said reassuring AJ.  Now if you boys will excuse us, we have some business to attend to.

Kayla, Juliet, Kass, Anya and I said our good nights and went and locked ourselves in the entertainment room.

Soon as the girls were out of ear shot, Kevin turned to AJ.

So what do you think of Anya? he asked.

She seems pretty cool, AJ replied.

Yeah she is.  I talked to her earlier and she seems, well, different.  Not bad different, but different like how we thought the girls were when we first met them, Kevin explained.

I get what you mean, AJ said, eyeing his friend.

And shes really pretty.  She and Eve resemble each other a lot.

AJ gave him a suspicious look.

Kevin, if I didnt know any better, Id say youre developing a crush on Anya.

Well we all know I cant have Eve so why not her sister?

Youre not just going after her because shes like Eve, are you?

Of course not, Kevin replied.  Yes she reminds me of Eve, but Anya is Anya.  Shes different.

This girl has been through a lot.  I hope you know what youre getting into, AJ warned.

Dont worry AJ.  I know what Im doing.

******Meanwhile******

Okay girlies, I have Skittles, Zig-Zag Cheetos, and Grasshoppers.  Essentials for any girls night, I said once we were in the entertainment room.

So whats the first order of business? Anya asked.

I think it should be what you and Kevin were talking about all afternoon, Kass said, prying for info.

Anyas face turned a few shades brighter at Kassandras question.

It was nothing.  He was just getting to know me, Anya replied.

Yeah, sure, Juliet said, smiling knowingly.

The real question, Kayla started, is do you like him?

I barely know him, Anya replied, blushing more.

You do, I said.  I can tell.

Okay, whatever guys, Anya said, brushing off the remark.

Okay, whatever guys, I mimicked.

Anyway, moving on, Anya started, giving us a look that said enough on that topic.  What do you guys want to do about the group?

I think we should start it again.  It could be fun, Kass said.

I agree, I started.  The more I think about it, the more I like the idea.

Is that the general consensus then? Anya asked.

Juliet and Kayla nodded in agreement.

Then its settled.  Well tell AJ he can set up an appointment to have you sing for the management and see where it goes from there, Anya replied.

I have a question, Kass said.

What is it? Anya asked.

We dont have to dress like Britney Spears do we?

We all just looked at her and laughed.

Lets hope not because I certainly wont, I replied.

Well now that thats settled, lets party! Kayla exclaimed and we all reached for the food, singing along with the radio.

******Four Days Later******

What if they dont like us?  What if they think were not good enough? What if they think were insulting them because were so bad?  What if--

Honey, you guys did terrific, AJ interrupted me.

Eternity had just performed for Jive Records and we were know standing outside Mr. Stephens, the man in charge of it all, office waiting for an answer.

Are you sure? I asked skeptically.

Would I say so if I didnt think it? AJ asked.

Yes, I replied seriously.

You girls were hot, he said grabbing my hands.  And that song was amazing.  Whats it called again?

Dont Call Me Baby, I replied.

Who wrote it?

Mostly Jules.

AJ craned his neck over our large group to find Juliet.

Hey! Juliet! He called, finally spotting her.  Your song was hot!

Juliet smiled and turned a significant shade redder.

Suddenly the office door opened and everyone fell silent.  Mr. Stephens stood there, his face expressionless.

The girls and I all passed a nervous look before he started to speak.

My associates and I have reviewed the tape of your performance thoroughly.  As I hear, you girls only had three days to rehearse this?

We all nodded, still too nervous to speak.

Having had such a short amount of time to prepare, he continued, your performance was very well done.  As there is no standing opening act for the Backstreet Boys we are allowing you girls the job for the rest of the tour and a recording contract that you can get working on right away.

A few seconds passed for the new information to settle in.  Suddenly screams erupted from the group.  I jumped onto AJ so hared that he almost fell over.  I looked around and saw the happy, tear-stained faces of my new band-mates.

So this is it, I thought. From here on out we are Eternity.
