Chapter 11:  Singled Out

The next morning I woke up to find AJ staring down at me.

How long have you been awake? I asked.

About half an hour.

Why didnt you wake me?

I like watching you sleep.  You look so cute.

He brushed a few loose strands of hair out of my face and continued to stare at me.

Youre the cute one, I said, reaching up and kissing him.

Were not reaching our next venue until tomorrow so were on the bus all day.  I say we stay right here.

Works for me, I replied, kissing him again, this time more passionately.

I reached my hands up and gently massaged the back of his neck.  He slid his hands from my sides up to my shoulders.

Ow! I let out a small cry when he ran his hands over my arms.

Whats wrong?

My arms hurt, I looked down at my arms and there were huge bruises on each one.

That bastard did this to you!?  If I ever see him again, Ill kill him, AJ exclaimed, getting riled.

No you wont.  Despite the fact that hes deranged, Drew loves me and he would never intentionally hurt me, I said, trying to calm him down some.

AJ looked at me a second then asked, Do you still love him?

I looked into his brown eyes and saw worry.  I didnt want to upset him, but I didnt want to lie to him either.

Yes, I do, I answered.  AJ lowered his eyes in response.

There is a but though, I said, smiling when AJ met my gaze again.  Yes I still love him, but its that first love kind of thing.  He was the first guy I really fell in love with.  Thats a big first.  Its not something that can easily go away.

AJ nodded, seeming satisfied with my answer.  He looked at me again then asked, Do you love me?

I looked at him and smiled.  As a matter of fact, Alexander, I do.

Good.  I love you too, he said and leaned down and kissed me.

******Later That Day******

Look, the bruised couple decided to join us, Kayla said as AJ and I walked into the entertainment room.

How are your arms Eve? Kevin asked, concern in his eyes.

A little sore, but Ill live, I replied.

Hey, AJ, your eye isnt looking so good, Kassandra commented.

It isnt feeling so good either, he pouted.

Oh pobresita que lastima lo siento mucho, I said, kissing his eye gently.

Honey, I dont know what you just said, but it sounded hot, AJ said as he put his arms around my waist and kissed me.

Can we make a rule that says no public displays of affection while on the bus? Juliet asked as she watched AJ and I.

Aww, but that would be no fun, AJ said as he dipped me, pulling me back up to kiss my lips.

Ooo, do that again! It was fun, I exclaimed, making AJ dip me again.

After a few more dips I made AJ put me down and I collapsed in the middle of the floor.  AJ sat down beside me, trailing his fingers across my stomach.

Stop that, it tickles, I laughed.

Ticklish, huh? AJ said.

I looked at him with a look that said dont you dare.  He disregarded the look, grabbed my sides and tickled away.

Ahh!  Some one help! I screamed from under AJ.

You two make me ill, Juliet said.

Someone needs a man, I said as I pushed AJ off me.

Juliet just rolled her eyes.  Im going to get something to drink.

Ill go with you, Brian said, glancing over at Kevin.  Kevin gave him a look as if to say go for it.

So whats up? Brian asked when he and Juliet entered the kitchen area.

Nothing, she replied, reaching into the fridge and pulling out two bottles of water.  Here ya go, she said, tossing him a bottle.

Thanks.

Brian played with his bottle for a second before he opened it.  After he took a sip he looked up and noticed the solemn look on Juliets face.

Whats wrong? he asked.

She glanced up and caught Brians eye.  There was something there that put her at ease.  She was drawn to him, feeling remarkably comfortable around him.

I dont know.  I guess Im just a little jealous that my friends have great boyfriends and I dont, she admitted, though quickly adverted her eyes, embarrassed by what she just said.

Brian smiled at her.
Heres my chance, he thought.  I better not blow it.

Juliet, theres something Ive been meaning to ask you for awhile.  He paused.  Juliet looked up at him expectantly.  I was wondering if you would...if youd like to...if I could...youd think I could get this right by now, he laughed.  Taking a deep breath he started again, Juliet, Id be honored if you would be my girlfriend.

Juliet looked at him skeptically.

Youre not just asking me because of what I just said are you?

No.  Believe me, Ive been trying to do this for awhile.  I just never had the courage before now, he said.

She thought about what he said for a second.  Brians eyes clouded with nervousness.  Finally Juliet looked at him.

Of course Ill be your girlfriend, she declared.

Brians eyes lit up and he ran over and kissed her.

Looks like someone found a man, I said as everyone walked into the kitchen.

Brian and Juliet broke apart, both turning a shade of red.

Its about time you two hooked up, Kassandra said.  Hey, it looks like everyone is hooked up.

Everyone but me, Kevin said and stalked off.

Way to be, Kass, Kayla said.  Ill go talk to him. And with that she ran off in search of Kevin.

She walked to the back of the bus and found Kevin sitting in the entertainment room with his head in his hands.

Wanna talk? Kayla asked, sitting down next to him.

Whats there to talk about?  The girl I want is taken.

Kayla looked at the man sitting next to her.  Her heart went out to him, but there wasnt much that she could do.

Youll find someone else Kev, she reassured.

But it wont be her, he said.  It wont be her.
