LAG Celebrated 50 years in 2007
The Lakewood Artist Guild was originally formed as the Lakewood Fine Arts Association
in 1957 by Theodore N. Ediss for the futherance of art culture in our community.  In 1966, the LAG we know today was "born" the Lakewood Fine Arts Association became known as the Lakewood Artist Guild.  We have a large and active membership representing all phases of fine art ~ oil, watercolor, acrylic, sculpture, 3-dimensional, photography and handcrafts.

The Lakewood Guild believes its members are Very Important People, therefore we exhibit our members' artworks for public viewing in our "Art Around Town" revolving gallery at many financial and business institutions throughout Lakewood and the surrounding communities.  Of these exhibits, many are "one-man" shows, and participating artists are changed on a rotating basis.

The Lakewood Artist Guild hosts Guest Demonstrating Artists at our monthly meetings eight times a year, which are free and open to the public.  Our monthly meetings are held at the Palms Park Community Center @ 12305 E. 207th Street in the city of Lakewood at 7:00 pm on the 3rd Wednesday, and our guest artists are well known in their fields.  The Guild does not hold meetings during the months of  July, August and December.

The goal of the Lakewood Artist Guild is the advancement of art in our lives and community, such as in the fields of watercolor, oil, color pencil, charcoal, modeling, carving, sculpture, photography, mosaic, and all
manner of drawing and handcrafts.  It is our hope to enlighten the public in relation to the province of art,
and to bring a fuller understanding of the great value of art to the people of Southern California, as well as
an appreciation of art in all its phases and in all aspects of our daily lives.

LAG's  annual Student Art Show is held in March/early April  with the goal to help promote art awareness and tolerance of other's feelings and beliefs among our younger artists.   Students from local schools are invited to submit their art  and compete for cash & vendor awards, as well as learn techniques in display & presentation of their art.

LAG's Workshops for VIA Artists ~ Artists with Disabilities meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at Bolivar Park in the City of Lakewood.  Many of our regular participating artists are members of the Mouth Painters of America, as well as other art associations throughout Southern California.

Our annual
Membership Show is being held in May of this year, and our Open Competition is being held on October 2008.  Both competitions are open to artists of all ages, and viewing, receptions and awards ceremonies are free and open to the public.

Don't forget to visit LAG's fine arts and crafts booths  at the
Pan American Fiesta on Mother's Day weekend at Mayfair Park in the City of Lakewood.  This is an annual event that has been sponsored by the Pan American Association and City of Lakewood for over 52 years, and LAG has been part of it for over 32 years!!
Stop by for a visit and say "hi"  at one of our events this year!

LAG is always looking for new friends and supporters.  Join us at our monthly meetings and art exhibitions throughout the year.
