Prince of Peace School

Main School SignDuring the summer of 2003 I volunteered with Cross-Cultural Solutions, an NGO that sends volunteers to the West African country of Ghana to provide service to the people in several towns in the Volta Region. I was assigned to teach computer skills to middle school students at Christ, The Prince of Peace JSS in a town called Ho.

Prince of Peace is a Private school on the outskirts of Ho were students have to pay a small fee to go towards classes. What makes this school different than a public school are the facilities. Its a bit larger with more School Gateclassrooms and theres room and board for students who come from out of town to live and study there.

Theres also a computer room with 4 working computers. This is where I was working for 5 weeks, teaching my classes how to use Microsoft Word and how the program can benefit them. Although difficult at times, since there was a definite language barrier, I feel that both my students and myself learned a great deal from each other.

||| EXAM TIME |||

At the end of the term I had to write up and give my classes an exam on what I taught them during the 5 weeks. This is the first time in my life I got to play teacher. So, with my bad experiences with exams in school, I decided to go easy on them and give a simple exam that's not too hard. I mean, those children have other things to worry about and some dumb old test should be one of them!
