Kakum National Park is located in Cape Coast and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ghana. Unlike other parks in Ghana, Kakum NP is tropical and walking around in it youll definitely feel the humidity. And although there are no animals, theres plenty to do at this park. Several walking and biking trail trails run through it and theyre so long you can be walking for days. The canopy walk is suspended over 400 meters in the air and you can see the park from it. Theres several observation decks were you can spot monkeys and different species of butterflies. Kakum is a fun day trip and youll almost always run into a tour group of tourist or foreigners. |

Transportation: From Accra take a Tro-Tro to Cape Coast, then in Cape Coast transfer onto a Tro-Tro that goes directly to Kakum NP. If you find that you're waiting too long for one take a taxi that shouldn't be more than 30,000 cedis.
Accommodation: While there's no accommodation inside the park, nearby is The Hans Cottage Botel. It's a very nice hotel, with singles, doubles, and suites in the $12-$20 range. The hotel is known for its crocodile pond, were several crocs live and you can feed them. Built on top of the pond is a two-level bar and restaurant and a deck that stretches out into the middle of the pond. The hotel also has an internet cafe, tennis court, pool, and it's very close to the entrance of the park.
(It's actually called a 'Botel'. Maybe because the restaurant and bar is built on top of water... so that makes it like a boat?!) |
