Cheap * Moderate ** Expensive ***

TRO-TRO A tro-tro is sorta like a long distance taxi that locals use to travel from town to town. There's a good and bad side to using these. The good thing is that tro-tros travel all over Ghana, so it's the best form of transportation to use when you want to visit many different places. It's also dirt cheap and I found the tro-tro stations to be alot of fun. The bad side to using tro-tros is that they can be a bit dangerous. They can be anything from a pick-up truck to a minivan and are supposed to hold up to 9 people but 15 are usually crammed in. They break down alot if they're traveling on bad roads and don't run on a schedule.

Don't be too scared off. You probably won't run into too many problems. Just have patience and don't be in a rush to go anywhere!

You will find taxis everywhere in Ghana, in every little town and village. They're just about every automobile on the road so they aren't hard at all to find and for the right price they will take you anywhere. Taxi prices are all different and it really depends on which city or town you're in. But no matter where you are you must bargin, and being a forienger expect to pay a little bit more. Any small town or village will have the cheapest prices, being around 2,000 cedi and lower. Accra probably has the highest prices for taxis and alot of the taxi drivers are crooked so make sure you bargin well.

I'll be honest, it's hard to figure out the cost of a taxi trip within Accra. Try asking a local first how mich it should be.

TAXI
FERRY COST ***
I'm not sure what the "STC" stands for but these bus stations can be found in the regional capitals. They are like luxury tro-tros since they are as big as the grey hound buses we have here in the US and are just as nice. There are lots of seats and a lot more comfortable. They are also a lot more money. Depending one where you're going they can range from $5.50 to $7.00. That's alot if you're used to paying for tro-tros that are $2 or less.

I personally haven't used these but if I wanted to make a long distance trip to the northern region I would definately use this.

STC BUS
CITY BUSES You'll only find these buses in major cities in Ghana and they are extremely cheap. They will take you anywhere in the vicinity of the city and pack in more people then they should. Try the bus if you don't want to use the taxi.

I only used the bus a couple of times while I was in Accra, but I was with a Ghanaian friend of mine and without her I wouldn't of used it. The buses look exactly like tro-tros and there are no bus stops to be found anywhere. You just have to know where to stand. I would have been so lost trying to find one!
