Trail rides

Dakota is my dad's horse.  We got him the day after Hank's 8th birthday(April 25th, 1999).  Dakota was 6 at that time.  When we got him, his name was Lakota, but we decided that that sounded more like a mare's name, so Dakota it was. (Another reason we named him Dakota is because he came from North Dakota).  "D," as I like to call him, came from a cattle farm, where the owner's wife had nicknamed him "Champ."  That's really all we know about his past.

THE GOODS

Dakota is anything but an easy horse to work with.  I have made attempts with working with him when I can, as dad doesn’t get time to ride him often, but he’s a fussy thing, and the two of us don’t even come close to “clicking.”  I honestly believe that Dakota would love to spend the rest of his life in the pasture with the other two horses, never to leave again.  Oh well, as long as he’s happy. J  Deep down, however, there is a nice caring horse in Dakota.  He does appreciate getting hugs and getting talked to, so I spend time when I can just hanging around him.
