HEY, abide by the law! Starting January 1, 2005, fertilizers containing phosphorus cannot be used on lawns in Minnesota.

However, fertilizers with phosphorus may be used on lawns that do not have a sufficient amount of phosphorus in the soil. Soil tests can easily be carried out. Instructions on soil testing are available through the University of Minnesotas INFO-U by calling 612-624-2200 (metro) or by calling 1-800-525-8636 and then selecting message 468.

It is also illegal to spread any fertilizer on hard surfaces including streets and driveways
