PAGE-LAKE POWELL HORSEMEN'S ASSOCIATION
The Page-Lake Powell Horsemen's Association is comprised of a dedicated group of horse enthusiast who have a multi level objective to contribute to the Page-Lake Powell area and to the area's horses and their owners.  Three of our objectives are listed below.  As we continue to grow, more will be added to our vision.
#1 To open a new niche in the tourism industry, real estate market and the business community by providing horse related events and activities for the area.  By organizing events such as rodeos, horse shows, trail rides etc., we can bring in people from outside the area to participate in such activities and thus show off to the rest of the world what an ideal location the Page-Lake Powell area is for horses and their owners.  Such activities will benefit local businesses by bringing in a new group of tourist, who will then take an interest in moving to the area and finally, some of those people will start new businesses which brings in revenue for the city.
#2 To provide education and contribute to the humane treatment of horses.  By organizing clinics, publishing a newsletter, working with rescue groups and veterinarians andalso  by creating a library of educational videos and written material, we hope to improve the quality of care and treatment of such a recognizable icon of the west.  Often misunderstood and neglected by uneducated owners, horses are usually the last on the list of priorities of humane groups because of the special needs of such animals and thus suffer the fate of being passed around from owner to owner, cruel and ignorant trainers trying to "fix" them and sadly, many finally end up in slaughter house to serve the appetite of many European and Asian countries.  The famous Ferndinand, the winner of the 1986 Kentucky Derby, 1987 Breeders Cup and Horse of the Year for 1987, met that fate in Japan.  Just proof that even famous champions are not immune to ignorance and cruelty.
#3 To create a scholarship fund, educational and competitive opportunities for Page-Lake Powell youths.  It has been proven again and again that busy, active kids get into less trouble.  Horse activities are an ideal medium for teaching children about responsibilities, teamwork, sportsmanship, caring for another living being and empathy.  Not every child is interested in football, soccer, and baseball.  Horse events create a unique opportunity  for children to express their courage, creativity and determination.  The horse industry is a gold mine of opportunity for well educated and motivated people.  There are many excellent equine studies schools available around to country and we are dedicated to assisting youths in achieving their goals by helping finance their dreams!
