Timer/Vote
Counter Guide
The information below is from the Communication and Leadership Manual
(a.k.a. Basic Manual). Refer to this
manual for more information but note some of the meeting roles and
responsibilities have been modified to fit LOTC interests.

One of the lessons to be
practiced in speech training is that of expressing a thought within a specific
time. The Timer/Vote Counter is the
member responsible for keeping track of time.
The Timer/Vote Counter times all speakers and provides time reports when
asked to. In addition, the Timer/Vote
Counter tallies all of the LOTC mMmbers’ ballots at
the end of the meeting for the LOTC weekly awards.
Early in the week:
- If you have any questions about your responsibilities contact the
General Evaluator.
Before the meeting:
- Arrive early to set up the lights and timer.
- Ask each of the speaker’s for their time limit.
- Discuss with the Table Topics Master their time preference
During the meeting:
- The General Evaluator will call on you at the beginning of the
meeting to introduce yourself and explain your role Timer/Vote Counter
- With each prepared speaker and table topics insure you are aware
of their time limit. If the time
limit has not been stated ask the Meeting Toastmaster or Table Topics
Master.
- Keep a report of every speaker’s name and time and give the
report when asked to.
- After the Meeting Toastmaster has regained control of the meeting
from the General Evaluator make sure the Meeting Toastmaster asks the
audience to hand back their completed ballots.
- Supply the names of the award winners to the Presiding Officer.
