Trouble in the Land of Dwarves
Chapter 2
Nathan to the Rescue
It was a bright morning on Ivory
Mountain. Prince Nathan woke from a
scary dream. He had dreamed that his sister
was in trouble and that he was the only one
who could save her. He walked through the
crystal castle looking for her. She was gone
and so was her pony.
He
panicked for a moment, then forced himself
to calm down. "She's probably out for her
morning ride through the clouds on Jewel,"
he thought to himself, where else would
she be?
Still, he decided to
find her anyway. He walked outside to a
great cave in the peak of the mountain and
called in.
"Chrysolis! Come
out!"
Suddenly he heard heavy
footsteps and out of the shadows stepped
the largest dragon that ever lived in
Darrowold. It stood over his head looking
down at him with gentle eyes. Nathan
loved his dragon. He thought she was the
most beautiful creature he had ever seen.
Her scales were a sparkling purple color
that reflected the sun's rays into lavendar
rainbows in the air. On her back were
wings of saphire that were so gossamer thin
that you could almost see through them as
they shimmered in the mountain air.

"Good morning, Chrys!" Nathan
greeted.
"Good morning,
Nate." the dragon replied. "Where shall we
fly this morning?"
"Just up into the
sky. I want to find my sister and
Jewel."
Chrysolis flexed her
wings with joy. The dragon always loved
flights in the early morning sunlight. She
lowered her head and allowed the prince to
mount, then leapt into the thin mountain
air.
They searched far and
wide throughout the mountain peaks for
some time and Nathans fears grew as he
realized his sister was nowhere to be found.
Then he remembered the Magic Mirror and
realized that he had been wasting valuable
time.
Chrys, take me back to
the palace! Quick! I think Nataleighs in
trouble! he commanded. The dragon
flapped her crystal wings and turned back
toward home.
When she
landed on one of the towers Nathan ran
back into the castle. He ran to the magic
mirror that his sister used to see the dwarves
of Darrowold and commanded it to tell him
where his sister could be found.
What he saw made him rush to
his room and put on his special armor and
grab his dragon shield and lance. In the
mirror he saw Nataleigh and Jewel standing
in a forest being chased by men who looked
dangerous and in a tree above her was a
woman holding a bow and firey arrows
ready to shoot! He ran outside, calling for
Chrysolis. The Dragon was ready with a
huge saddle on her back and helped him to
climb up and situate himself into it.
"Where are we going, Nate?
she asked.
"To the Renegade
Forest of Darrowold!" he answered. "My
sister is in trouble and I've got to save
her!"
Chrysolis twisted her head
to look at the boy with one questioning eye.
But your father gave instructions that you
were never to go below the cloud
cover.
I know, I know,
Chrys, I dont like it either, he shouted.
but Nataleighs in danger and we dont
have time to get help! Now cmon!
Please!
Chrysolis sighed and
reluctantly launched into the air once again.
This time they did not soar over the
mountains, but glided down through the
clouds and out over the great trees of
Renegade Forest looking for Princess
Nataleigh, hoping they were not too
late!
