Knight Bachelor - In midieval times, a gentlemen admitted with special ceremonies
to honorable military rank; a champion or devoted follower of a cause or principle. The
position of knight is bestowed upon a candidate who has completed all of the
requirements up to and including those below. This is a position that is attained through
the utmost grace and effort and is accompanied by much ceremony and celebration. A
Master Squire who has met all the requirements of Knighthood and has been called out
for the purpose of knighting must first prepare himself for this most solemn event by
participating in an all night prayer vigil which should include some form of fasting and
will be facilitated by the Household Clergy and will culminate in a blessing by the laying
on of hands. The Knight Banneret or highest ranking available noble shall perform the
knighting ceremony which includes solemn commitments, and an acceptance into a
circle of brotherhood by those currently holding the rank of Knight. It is expected that no
candidate shall attain to this position that has not demonstrated self-control and
leadership potential, regardless of other achievements attained. This shall be determined
by the leadership, made up of no less than the Officiating Knight Banneret and
Household Lord, but should also include input from the Brotherhood of Knights and any
other available nobility as well. Once a knight, the candidate is awarded his spurs, a gold
chain and is entitled to acquire and wear a white leather belt. They will recieve a
secondary ranking that reflects their specialization (ie. Knight Herald, Knight Marshal,
Knight Cleric, etc.) as well as a formal Title granted by the officiating Lord. Knights are
also included in leadership council and are strictly trained as leaders in the household.
They are assigned at least one squire and possibly several pages to oversee, which they
are responsible for mentoring and assisting in the accomplishment of advancements. To
facilitate this, the knight will be trained utilizing Joshua�s Men and other Injoy materials.
The knight is to embody all that is best in a Medieval Order: Chivalry, Honor, Valor,
Self-control, and Integrity!
1. Be at least 18 years of age AND 12th grade. (High School Senior)
2. Attain the level of Master Squire as outlined above having acquired all four of the
squire achievement ribbons, (Adding Blue-Valor & Gold-Nobility to the Red & White)
through completion of the 7 promises and additional training on the classic spiritual
disciplines.
3. Develop a personal coat of arms that will be shared with a sponsored squire, as well as
a matching pennant, surcoat and tablecloth.
4. Acquire or make a lance to display pennant.
5. Attend a lady of choice at one feast or court, demonstrating highest standards of
chivalry and honor on her behalf.
6. Participate in at least 3 more formal tournaments.
7. Provide another form of entertainment at another banquet.
8. Participate in a quest. (The Knight Banneret will assign the quest which is a noble
right of passage and test of skill comprising the entire knighthoods involvement.
9. Learn and be efficient with at least one weapon and/or fighting style.
10. Memorize the Knight�s Creed and the Knights scripture verse. (2 Timothy 2:1-5)
11. Explain and exemplify the Creed and the scripture.
