Nestled at the base of Kings Mountian is a small lake community that is cherished by its members. Established in 1924 as a place for gentlemen to come fishing and hunting, it has turned into a community for families to vacation and relax with friends. The summers are busy with children of all ages playing and swimming. The nights are enjoyed with weekly bon fires and cookouts.

Combining the names of two cities the lake's original members were from - Kings
Mountian and Gastonia, formed the name Montonia. Mules formed a sixteen-acre lake with drag pans in the middle of the forty-six acres purchased. The acreage was divided up among the investors by drawing numbers. With the dam completed and the investor's property assigned, Lake Montonia was incorporated in May of 1925.

Today the lake has cabins, lofts and houses built around it. Members who have chosen the lake as a permanent residence enjoy the lake year-round. The years have improved the lake and its people; there is only one place like it..... and it is here.                                                                            .
