The stars were out tonight-brighter than they usually were. Vega glanced around, completely content. She hadn't been this happy in a long time. She glanced up at the stars once more, and sighed happily. Shrugging her coat off, for it was a warm evening, she decided that perhaps she would go for a walk by starlight.

The moon and stars shone pathways of luminenscence down the trails, making it impossible for someone not to see. They radiated white light, pulsating with a life of their own. Vega loved the woods, and went there as often as time allowed. She let another sigh escape her and her mood turned solemn.

The place in which she was currently staying was satisfactory, however, she was lonely- a feeling that most orphans quickly become accustomed to but not Vega. She constantly desired companionship and she wasn't finding it. Most of the children in the orphanage were younger, and she had very few people to talk to with the exception of her caretakers. Vega wished for something more, even if it meant a non-human companion...

Lost in thought, Vega didn't see the rocky ledge until she tripped over it. Tumbling haphazadly down the hill, she landed face first into a pile of bracken. Spitting out leaves and debris, Vega tried to maintain her composure, but something caught her eye. In front of her lay a large cave, that must have gone unnoticed for quite some time (for Vega frequented the woods often). She curiously wondered what it was like inside and then threw all caution to the wind and decided to go in anyway, dangerous or not.

The walls were damp with dew, and she could dimly hear a trickling sound coming from somewhere. The cave smelled faintly musty, as if nothing had been in there for quite some time (which greatly relieved Vega). She padded forward quietly, but was thrown completely off balance by a strange object that she tripped over. Ducking down to investigate, her hand swept over a smooth object. Upon closer investigation, she discovered that it was oval shaped in nature and that it resembled an egg. Picking it up, she took it outside to examine.

Sure enough, it was an egg of some draconic nature. The brilliant white of the shell seemed to reflect the brilliance of the moon and stars. The egg seemed to soak in the starlight, drinking it in like a favourite tonic. Vega laughed aloud at her good fortune and clutched the egg in a careful embrace.

"Hmm, what to call you?" she thought aloud, her face screwing up in concentration. "Perhaps Nemesis is a fitting name. Yes, Nemesis it is. It sounds very dragonlike," she said, completely sure of herself. Carefully tucking the egg into her overly large handbag, she trudged back up to the orphanage, happy that her call had been answered.
