General Pokedex data: Although pink and nekked on the outside, underneath the skin is a network of metal plating. It was thought that this plating was outside the skin as in steel types like the Aron line or Skarmory until this species was successfully brought back with DNA found in a few mummified Kilossalraptr. They thrive best when hunting and eating poison types. These juveniles will flock together in the safety of thier parent's territory. As they grow older, thier skin becomes bumpy with the oncoming event of an evolution (& the feathers that come with)As long as they remain in this stage, alphas and sub-adult members of the flock will continue to feed, protect and nurture them. They begin to hone thier hunting skills by headbutting trees to shake out sleeping birds or small prey. This does them no harm, since thier skulls are protected by a steel helm plate. Durring it's evolution fine, almost fur like feathers emerge all over its body along with stiffer, steel feathers down its spine, tail and on the edge of its wings. Bands of visable steel show along the beak and the thick steel helm on its head is no longer covered by skin. This bird can use this new helm as a battering ram against trees and other pokemon. It will kick with its thickly clawed feet to tear into the toughest hides or just as easily dig with them for prey like oddish. They may spend up to five years under thier parent's wing (stubby as those may be). They will hunt small prey with thier sibblings and help keep watch over the younger generations in thier family group. They help thier parents patrol the flock territory and will call to them if there are rivals or dangerous predators they cannot run off or kill alone. This call can be heard for many kilometers and is sometimes enough to keep less bold predators off thier territory. They will leave the flock just before they reach complete sexual maturity and evolve. The courship dances between two of these pokemon is thought to be potentially fatal if performed after evolution occures. Once a mate is chosen, it is for life. The newly mated pair will wander until a territory suitable for raising thier new brood can be found. Discovered by: Lotus Corp. Breeding method: see further evolution. ~~~~~~~ Species name: Kilossalraptr The Death Rapier Type: Steel/Fighting Height: 10' Weight: 403 lbs General Pokedex data: The last stage of the Starkling line. These were the truly terrifying apex predators of thier time. Long legs gave them speed over the stouter mammals of thier era. A 2 ft. sword-like steel spur was used to slash or gut thier prey or fight against rival adults. A sharp ax-like steel blade adorns the end of thier beaks and can be used to deal out more damage to prey on the run or to break new paths through dense vegitation for thier small chicks. Evolution into this form can only occur after completing the task of gaining a mate, but even then, this change may be stalled until the new pair are truely bonded for life. Lotus Corp. spent many months trying to figure out the evolution trigger for thier hammerails, which at the time, were all female (females being easier to recreate, and had a better chance of survival). It wasn't until they discovered hammerails were still juvenile pokemon that they decided to attempt bringing a male into the lab. It wasn't long after then, that the first alpha pair was established. From there, a few more males were created and the species grew in numbers. Lotus Corp. , however, underestemated thier capacity to keep these ancient pokemon under control. Thier wranglers would gather eggs, but they didn't always find the nests. With more hammerails coming into breeding age, but unable to find a place of thier own, the stress led to a small group of them breaking out. The exact number was unknown. The feral hammerail slipped into the deepest forests and possibly made it into the jungles. Breeding is an intresting affair for these birds. A male must first pluck out the protective steel feathers from the back of his mate before he can safely mount the hen. A large amount of trust must be given by the hen and faith put into her mate to protect her from all harm while these feathers return. After mating, the male, also sets about the task of nest building. This could take several tries, as some females will kick apart nesting mounds they find unsuitable. Once his hen lays thier eggs, the cock will stand over the nesting mound and begin to pluck the steel feathers from his body and scatter them around the nest. The steel feathers serve to keep ground moving predators like ekans from slipping into nests and eating eggs. It is durring this time that the cock is most vulnerable and depends on his mate to feed, water and protect him and thier offspring. He will continue to pluck the budding steel feathers from his body as they grow in until the chicks hatch from thier eggs. No longer having to worry about breaking eggs, the male allows his feathers to grow back while keeping the chicks warm and regurgitating up thier first meals from kills his mate brings home. In instances where there are two breeding pairs in a flock, the eggs are pooled in one nest under the alpha cock. The beta cock will take up a role simmilar to the hens and help to feed, water and protect the nesting cock. Hunting large prey is an organised affair within established flocks. The hammerail juveniles chase larger prey into the waiting claws of the adults. The food is eaten, then shared with any starkling in the flock through a process of regurgitation. Smaller prey are hunted and eaten without much sharing, unless an elder is teaching a younger flockmate how to kill. The only thing a full grown Kilossalraptr has to look out for is other Kilossalraptr looking to take its territory. When its territory is invaded by a newly mated pair looking to take some land of thier own, all the breeding adults will come out to defend what is thiers. The fighting takes place between the alpha male and the intruding male, with the rest looking on. Should the alpha cock fail, the alpha's hen will battle. Should she fail, the duty to defend falls upon the beta male. Should he fail, the beta hen will try. If all the adults have fallen the new reigning couple will call to any juveniles in the territory. Once it has been established that the new couple are the new alpha's life continues as normal. Eventually, one of the late alpha's female offspring will bring home a mate and become the new betas in the flock. This was thought to be an intresting evolutionary developement, as it ment that no bloodline would be completely extinguished by these hostile flock take overs. In turn, the Hippopapyrus will often gain nutrients from the wastes of these pokemon, absorbing them up through thier feet as they walk in the silty muds of the river bed. Males will gather harems, and keep them closely guarded from other males. Almost all functions of life happen in the water, from birth to mating to death. Mesoclicks were hooved carnivores that seemed to dissapear from the evolutionary chart. Fossil records revealed no secrets, so a team was put together to see just what these creatures were like, and if they would evolve. What was discovered was simply amazing! Mesoclicks did evolve into another form, but the change was very diffrent from any other mammal species, it didn't even occure to scientists to look in that direction. Where they were looking for a larger hooved animal, they instead found a pokemon that lived in water on the shore. Further study revealed that these pokemon were an evolutionary attempt to keep young safe from the jaws of sea predators. Many types of the giant ancient sharpedo-type pokemon would have made easy meals of younger sea mammals. Once thier parent pod leaves the rivers, the young Mesoclicks group up for protection and companionship. They will hunt, eat and sleep together for possibly the rest of thier lives. Scientist at Lotus Corp. were very surprised when thier Mesoclicks evolved into this creature. Sonarcetus hang out along river shores and fish together. Some of them will chase the fish closer to the shore while thier podmates hang out and wait for the fish to be driven into thier waiting sharp jaws. Communication between them comes in the form of high pitched clicks and low pitched booming barks. The pods eventually migrate down river to the ocean shores, and remain there in larger groups as they are joined by other pods from other Ecoloceti litters. Males and females from diffrent groups would begin to pair off and smaller pods would eventually be formed from the fall/winter megapod. Sonarcetus then take on a mostly aquatic lifestyle, never to return to land until later in life to give birth. Mesoclicks born to this stage of pokemon have a lower overall survival rate. Breeding method: Sexual ~~~~~~~~~~~ Species name: Ecoloceti The First Whale Type 1/ Water Type2/ Ice Height: 5'x '25 length. Weight: 1,850 lbs General Pokedex data: Ecoloceti, while not very diffrent in behavior from the modern wailord or other related pokemon, this ancient, first whale-like pokemon had a very intresting way to keep its young safe from predators of the ancient seas. Pregnancies can last almost two years in length, durring which the unborn developes into a fully developed pokemon. When the females travel uprivers to birth, they make sure to birth thier calves on the same side of the river. The calves are born fully haired, eyes open and ready to run just minutes later. Mothers only nurse thier young for about a week. This is a difficult and dangerous task for the mother, as she must roll onto her back near the shore. Usually, one mother will nurse and the others will act as guards along the shoreline incase something tries to attack. The milk has an almost custard-like consistancy and is high in fat and protein. The young mesoclicks are given enough energy stores to last them almost a month without fresh food. Some mothers will even attempt show thier calves how to hunt by injuring pokemon that come to the river's edge to drink. Two weeks after giving birth, the Ecoloceti mothers will leave the rivers and rejoin thier mates in the familly pod. Litter sizes are usually 2-3. Lotus Corp.'s Science team believes this pokemon may have gone extinct due to the strange and very specialized breeding habits it had. Males breeding out of the species would produce offspring that would be born prematurely or drown when born in the deep oceans. Females breeding out of species have been observed to bear offspring that seem normal. It should be noted here, that Ecoloceti's gene type is always dominant, it will always produce mesoclick calves. Lotus corp. is keeping an eye on the pods it released into the wild to see if this theory is correct. They will occasionally go for the evolutions if they feel like a challenge. Breeding usually occurs in late autumn before they go into hibernation. In hotter climates, they may not hibernate at all, but will sleep for longer periods. It has been observed that on occasion, this pokemon will also skim the water's surface for fish possibly using it's echolocation to confuse fish into thinking there is a bug on the water's surface. This is a farmer's bane and the work of the very elusive, giant ground dwelling bat pokemon. Considered far more deadly than mightyena clans or wild dog packs, these pokemon strike terror and fear in humans where ever they are discovered. They are usually found in smaller colonies of a dozen or so. It has been discovered that these pokemon evolve from Leafwraith that have found a Thunderstone. They have a groove in the back of thier teeth that are designed to work in a straw-like manner when this pokemon laps its tounge against them while feeding. Females give birth to unusually large litters of Flutterpip, who will cling to her body, giving her a scaled appearance. They serve as a bit of protection from direct sunlight and allow for the rarer daytime hunts she must make in order to sustain herself and her numerous young. Her mate will only hunt at night, and will share his kills with her, or bring home live warmblooded creatures for her to feast on. When her young are old enough, the female will find a suitable place and shake them from her body, sending them out in a fluttering cloud of green and brown wings. They are found in large groups, infesting thorny shrubs or wild vines. When potential prey comes near, they will attack, thier gooey outter coat of digestive enzymes attaching to the prey. Thier inner core-seed will heat up, melting thier enzyme goo into the flesh of the unfortunate victem. Death is usually slow and painful for thier prey. If singled out and eaten by another pokemon, Dewberri flesh releases calcium oxalate crystals into the lining of the digestive track. This causes much burning and irritation for those who eat them. Add to that the excess of digestive enzymes in thier systems, and the pain of loose bowels, this often will turn pokemon off from ever eating Dewberri again. It favors flying bugs, though, and will sometimes dim its light if it notices something less savory coming towards it. Sometimes called a Leaping Lanturn, for the short spring it will make into the air to grab an insect hovering over it. The bug is quickly killed by a vat of digestive enzyme kept at an almost boiling level of heat in this pokemon's gullet. It may take a full day for the meal to be disolved. The Glowbin need only eat meat once every few days to maintain a healthy glowing light and waxy coating on its leaves. They can survive off sunlight, but this is a last resort, and makes them look very depressed. Humans use these as ornamental garden plants and lighting also, but Glowbin tend to smell less pleasant than thier earlier forms. This can be helped with feeding it fragrant herbs along with smaller meals that are quickly digested. It has a spicy, sweet aroma and a soft flickering glow that attracts curious pokemon to thier doom. Fleurdrakes are armed with boiling hot enzyme acid, and sticky enzyme covered glowing spheres that bejewel a cape like set of psuedo-wings. These structures will curl up around a victem, sufficate, then dissolve them. Once all the nutrients have been absorbed, the leaf will fall, leaving behind a greusome package of parts undigestable to the Fleurdrake. New leaves will grow and shift into place to replace used ones. Fleurdrakes will also injest food oraly. Potential mates to female Fleurdrakes must first make sure all of her leaf-traps are occupied or risk becoming ensnared. While incubating her young, the female will not eat at all. Her leaf-trap becomes a modified womb in which the young develope in individual egg-like capsules. Sometimes, the female will die after her young are hatched, having become too weak from lack of protein in her diet. Sometimes, the female may reabsorb part of all of her offspring if she becomes too stressed by the enviorment.
