Its not only amazingly rare but friendly, and not at all shy. Jovial and sweet, it makes a great companion. Wherever this Pokemon exists, flowers and plants seem to grow with increased vigour. In various folklores, this is said to be a magical ability of thiers - in fact, its simply because thier droppings provide great, super nutritious compost. This species is entirely female. Any offspring it produces are invariably Pipgiggle. It breeds with other grass type Pokemon via polination, or may mate with other fairy type Pokemon, much in the same way Bulbasaur are in both grass, and reptile groups. The father species is usually identifiable, however, in the coloring of the leaves that cover the lower part of this Pokemons body, as the colors will usually correspond with that of the fathers breed. It feeds almost exclusively on nectar, but will break open fruits to drink the juice within. Its laughter-sounding speech can fill glades where this pokemon exists, and make them seem like happy, vibrant places. Lost explorers have lived for years on end in such glades, and been perfectly fine doing so in the company of Lafflora. These Pokemon exude an air of happiness, and are, like thier pre-evo's, fantastic companions. Thier wings are no good for flying, but are used more as parachute devices when this Pokemon leaps from tree to tree, or from treetop to ground in search of yummy flowers. They hatch from eggs laid close to water, and immediately seek shelter in long grasses, especially those abundant with flowers. The propellor on thier head isnt at all well developed, but serves as a disguise to lure flying insects and nectar feeding birds close, as it is designed to look like a large flower, and the Pokemon is born instinctively knowing the 'sweet scent' move which aids in thier disguise. Once an insect or bird comes close enough, the Zaplotyl will discharge a large amount of electricity from thier propellor and paralyze thier victim before killing and eating it. Thier colors range from orangey yellow, right through to lime green, but for the most part theyre a bright, sunflower yellow. The markings on thier body can be any one of a range of dark colors, purple, green, blue, red, but black is the norm. They cannot fly, but thier round bodies contain a lighter than air gas in special pockets, and thier propellor, though undeveloped, allows them to hover for brief periods. They are also born with the ability to float on the surface of any large body of water with ease, though thier inability to go below the surface doesnt allow them to swim, nor hunt underwater. It has a very loud voice when it wants to. Its usual mode of speech is high pitched, and burbling, but when alarmed or in pain, it sends out a shrill, ear-bending squeal that is quite painful to listen to. While it is possible for Zaplotyl to breed, they do not often do so till they evolve. They have no social structure, and are for the most part solitary. Those that do breed do not produce large clutches, and they are often improperly cared for and die. They move from the ground to the trees in this form, being more lithe, and nimble, and relying less on stealth to hunt thier prey of small birds, larger insects, and tree-dwelling mammals such as Slakoth and Mankey. Thier flying ability is now fully developed, and they can cover great distances, using the propellor on thier back, and thier large, wide tails as a rudder to perform high speed turns and loops. They live on the outskirts of coastal forests, and tend to be solitary, at the most grouping with one or two others, in which case they will hunt in a pack, to bring down larger prey... but these unions are never long lived. They have no set territory, and will roam from coast to coast, if need be, to find better hunting grounds. This is the stage they are most likely to breed in, and thier loud voices are retained from childhood, to be used in sounding long, wailing mating calls. Mating takes place in mid flight, and only those with the strongest propellors will be able to emerge from the mating flight in time to prevent crash landing. Pokedex entry: This Pokemon is an expert aviator, and can perform amazing mid-air acrobatics unlike any other known Pokemon. By this stage, it will have left the forests and fields, and will be living around the coast, prefferably on rocky cliffs where it will set up its nest with others of its kind in a small colony. Thier diet is primarily aquatic mammals such as Spheal, Seel, Slowpoke and thier evolutions, as well as larger seabirds such as Pelliper, and Delibird. They can now, with the addition of another propellor on the tail, fly at high speeds, and will cross the ocean from island to island quite happily. The second propellor is also highly effective as a weapon, being made of a hard, bony substance, and spinning at frightening speed to slice and dice any opponents skin to ribbons... however, its used sparingly as its required for flight, and if it becomes broken, or overly worn, it will cease to be useful, and the Zaptor will starve. Unlike its more virile pre-evolution, it doesnt often breed in this stage. It will pick a mate, and they will remain together the rest of thier natural lives, becoming hunting partners, and sharing the same nest, but producing less than one clutch every two years, if that. However, thier mating practises are far more relaxed than those of Zapguana, with a land based ritual as opposed to airborne. Pokedex entry: The haunting, shrill calls of these Pokemon can carry an amazing distance over the ocean. Sailors throughout history have been fooled into thinking thier vessel close to land hearing this call and mistaking it for that of a seabird, when in actual fact, they were many, many miles away from the nearest coast. Theyre rodents, with colors ranging from green to brown to gold, and they live in trees. Thier food source is the sap of the branches they latch onto with thier sharp, serated teeth. They will latch onto low hanging branches, and drink for a long period each day, thier stomachs swelling and becoming quite round till they are satisfied, and can go about thier other buisiness by simply dropping from the branch onto the ground below.. which is safer than it sounds as they always land on thier feet, much like cats. They are a highly social animal, and do not do well on thier own, pining for company. They breed with a vengeance, producing large litters in a very short time.. which is just as well, as they are close to defenceless, and highly sought after by predators because thier flesh is so sweet, tender, and fruit flavored. General Behaviour 'Tachi series pokemon, for the most part, are jovial, and playful. Thier aggressive side cannot be denied, but when not hunting or fighting, they are playful, and curious.. constantly on the move to explore thier own territory, or find something new to do. Human owned 'tachi pokemon, when raised well, are affectionate and loving, and they exhibit these characteristics in the wild also amongst mates, children, and other family or group members. They will, however, become more feisty during breeding season, but not by any great amount. Thier versatile diet and hardiness has allowed them to move into some of the worlds harshest climes, hence there are many different breeeds, all with thier own individual set of behavioral rules, but generally speaking its clear that healthy 'Tachi are all investigative, intelligent, friendly, playful creatures. Eating. All of the 'Tachi series are omnivores, meaning that they require both meat and veggies for total bodily health. For the most part, vegetables take the form of fruits, and various herbs. Veggies are taken in small amounts, and it is rare for 'Tachi's to fill up on them.. they provide more by way of nutrients than satisfaction of hunger. Otachi and Ootachi eat both low growing plants, and in the case of fruits, they will climb. Rootachi, however, are more likely to use thier added height to simply reach towards higher growing fruits, and leaves. The Rootachi is most likely to eat plant matter out of the three evolutionary stages, due to its larger appetite. Otachi, when it comes to meat, eat smaller rodents and reptiles, along the lines of Pichu, Azurill, and young Charmander. Insect pokemon, however, tend to make up a large amount of thier meals because of thier small size, ready availability, and easiness to catch and kill. Otachi tend to enjoy fruits, too, with many berries, as well as larger kinds making up a substantial part of thier diet.. they have a definite sweet tooth! Ootachi tend to hunt more than thier pre-evolution, foraging less for bugs and fruits, and going after larger prey. Pikachu, Rattata/Raticate and Ekans making up the bulk of thier diet.. however, they will take on larger prey, as well as the more dangerous specimens, such as Mareep/Flaaffy, Nidorino/Nidorina and Pidgeotto. They also develop a fondness for eggs which comes with a body more adapted to travel in the trees. Thier bodies are amazingly flexible, letting them invade the most curvaceous Nidoran and Rattata burrows and nests, also. Rootachi require larger prey than either of thier evolutions, and more food in general. Thier diet includes Ponyta, Mareep, Doduo, Ekans, Tauros/Miltank and Stantler series pokemon. The change in hunting style makes pursuit of these animals easier, and dispatch of them less risky. The plant portion of thier diet extends also, to include grasses, and leaves as well as the usual herbs and fruits. Rootachi can also take nutrients from clay, especially from the beds/banks of rivers, where they lick the mud to gain nutrients that are perhaps lacking in the pokemon and plants in thier immediate area. All 'tachi series pokemon require a fair amount of food merely to survive, simply because they are very high energy pokemon, moving quickly, and being very active minded. One food common to all Tachi series pokemon is carrion... they arent above taking the leftovers of another pokemons kill. Though they wont eat anything too old and ripe, they dont mind if there is a little age to the meat. Another point worth noting, is that 'Tachi arent cannibalistic. They dont eat thier own, unless the situation is very dire, and they are close to death via starvation. (Or, are mentally unsound due to stress/abuse) Social Order Otachi group together. They are a social pokemon, and they soon form a pecking order where the strongest call the shots, and the weaker or less able follow them... but these tend to be loosely formed, and not set in stone. Litters of Otachi stick together until evolution usually, and those who do break away from a family group often search for others of thier own kind, or similar to keep in a group of some kind where they can feel safety in numbers.... Otachi tend to be somewhat cautious, and can be down-right neurotic in this stage, when left alone for long periods of time. In these groups, the strongest tend to be decided on two levels. The first being physical size. Otachi, being somewhat spherical in appearance, use this as an advantage in games based around grappling, and wrestling, where the larger Otachi usually wins, besting the other through sheer weight. The second is tail size. The Otachi tail is its defining feature, and a long tailed Otachi will make a long tailed Ootachi upon evolution, therefore tail size is a loose form of easily visible status symbol, as well as a more useful tool for battle and standing guard. Being quite community minded, as well as cautious, Otachi tend to stand guard in shifts, and call to thier peers, and family members upon sighting danger, at which point the guards assess the threat, and wether it can be run from, or overcome... and possibly turned into a meal by a group assault. Ootachi, upon evolution become a lot more solitary. Breaking away from thier groups gradually, they tend to become either singles, or pairs... groups of more than three are rare. Males leave the group faster, and more eagerly than the females as a rule. At this point, with the social order broken, they no longer have a set place to be, nor a set social ranking, and they will roam by themselves or as a pair to find a new place in the world to either settle in, or leave, and keep wandering. Rootachi have a very similar social structure to Ootachi. Uusally in either pairs, or sigularly, but they tend not to live in large social groups.. which is good, because with thier appetite, they cant afford too many in one area. Pairs become less and less likely, as the Rootachi matures, and becomes a lot more solitary. Breeding and babies The mating season for 'Tachi extends from late winter through to early summer, depending on location, breed, and individual 'tachi's cycles. For 'Tachi breeding to take place, the female must be in estrus, and the male must be in rut at the same time, or any matings will be unsuccessful. For females, estrus lasts until she is mated, and then resumes within weeks of the kits having left the den. For males, thier rut begins in early spring, and extends till the end of summer... but in warmer areas where the temperature is high all year round, it can extend itself over a whole year. 'Tachi series pokemon are egg layers, and lay 2 to 4 eggs a season, 4 being a somewhat large litter, 2 being small, and 1 being very rare, but not unheard of. 3 is the most common number of eggs for a Jill to lay, as this is a nice manageable number, and ensures that the parents wont be overtaxed feeding the kits, thereby ensuring that in most cases, all 3 survive at least untill after weaning... not counting events such as disease, parasites, larger predators and other accidents. Male and female parents both share roles of hunter/gatherer, babysitter, and teacher. The 'Tachi family unit is a strong one during the kits formative weeks, in the summer. Parents often play with the kits in a charming, childlike manner, teaching them this way. 'Tachi eggs are for the most part a middling chocolate brown, with flecks of darker shades of brown, and light shades of cream. They are about the size of a cricket ball. Five days is the period the eggs remain whole, before the kits hatch... most of the development is done over the thirty five day internal gestation period, and the egg is more of a transition between womb and the world outside than an essential part of the kits development. Kits inside the eggs are active, and mobile, moving around, and making muffled noises the entire duration of thier egg period. Worth note is the fact that Jills who dont breed when in season run a very serious risk of developing internal infections and other nasty problems because they will remain in season indefinitely till mated, causing build up of fluids, and hormonal imbalances. This can cause loss of fertility, severe blood poisoning, long term internal injury, and more commonly, death. Its not uncommon for one male to take more than one mate within the same territory, should the opportunity arise. He will pick one mate (Usually the stronger, and therefore most likely to bear stronger children) to which he will devote the majority of his time and effort, but will do his best to provide for both. Any more than two mates, and the one(s) that are deemed least worthy of time and food may well be left to fend for themselves.... however, this is not at all common as more than two Jills in any one territory is an uncommon occurrence all of its own. 'Tachi type pokemon do not often breed outside thier own species. Other predators are not tolerated within set 'Tachi's territories, and prey animals are obviously seen as just that.. prey. However, the 'Tachi series are genetically versatile, being of the normal type, and being mammalian, so its not unheard of, especially in the Otachi phase when the need for companionship usually outweighs the bounds of specie and type. Weaker 'Tachi sometimes find themselves taking the role of carrion eaters following stronger hunters and feasting on the remains of thier kills, and when this situation occurrs, interbreeding is more common. Territory Males of the specie often have no set territory. Wanderers and travelers all, they tend to settle for short periods of time, before moving on. For the most part, they will take a territory of 2 square kilometers during mating and child rearing seasons, which they will share with thier mate and children. Marks are placed often in the form of musk in dung, urine, and secretions on trees, rocks, patches of vegetation and ground. When 'Tachi make a mark on thier territory.. they go all out, using a large amount of scent to make it clear who owns what. However, in 'tachi intensive areas, its not uncommon for set territories to overlap, especially within family groups. Even when defending territory, 'Tachi series pokemon are apt to be flexible, and giving.. allowing passage through, and residency within a set territory, so long as the owners space and hunting arent interferred with. Jills will, however, for the most part take one territory of 2 square kilometers, and stick to itlike glue, moving only if hunting becomes poor, or if the environment is encroached upon by something threatening (Ursaring, humans, etc etc). They tend to be far more territorial than the males, and will tolerate a lot less infringement on thier space. Two related Jills may share the same territory, and slightly less common, two unrelated, but interaction in the latter case is severely limited. Other predators in the area.. Cyndaquil, Meowth, Zigzagoon, Growlithe and the like, will be driven away mercilessly, or killed and eaten. However, Otachi, in thier early days away from thier family, should they find themselves alone, will find company anywhere they can, being gregarious and prefering the company of strangers to no company at all.. hence, most solitary Otachi dont survive. They are killed and eaten by those lucky predators who find themselves confronted with an attention starved spherical meal. Fighting 'Tachi type pokemon have a distinctive manner of battle, hinging around the use of thier tail. Its often tensed during a defence curl attack, and once the defense of any 'tachi is maxed out, the tail becomes like a fur-jacketed steel baton, pure muscle, lithe and versatile, and very deadly. The tail is usually used to gain height as a gesture of intimidation. At the onset of most battles, a 'Tachi will stand on its tail, and try to bluff its way out of conflict, or gain a psychological advantage. Limbs are outstretched, as are claws, and from this high point, its easy for any 'Tachi to strike an opponent, or captivated prey. Eye contact is maintained at all times, and the 'tachi will move its head, and shoulders from side, to side in a rythmic swaying motion designed to distract, and confuse an opponent. This motion, size increase, and the constant eye contact can be enough to induce a tharn state in many smaller prey animals, should they be cornered.. Nidoran being a good example. Rather than charge in and risk a poisoning, a 'Tachi will often try and use the aforementioned technique to scare it into a state of paralasis, before striking from above. In a grappling situation, the tail is used as baton, lever, strangulation device, and general extra limb. It has the power to crush ribs when used to full potential, and even the power to throw prey or an opponent. Its flexible enough to double over on itself, each individual vertebrae in the tail being very small especially to allow for this structural peculiarity, making it one of the very most flexible parts of any pokemons body, bar slugma, grimer, and ditto series pokemon. The tail, more often however, is used simply to hold prey while pressure is applied by the jaws, or the claws are used to sever a spine or throat. The 'tachi series pokemon have versatile paws, also, capable of becoming fists due to dextrous digits, and also a very effective clawed weapon, with long, needlepointed claws. They tend to be used for quick lightening fast strikes, especially slashes, and scratches. The 'Tachi series of pokemon are equipped best to use speed in battles, delivering a quick barrage of hits, before leaping back, and preparing to deliver another volley. Long, hard fights tire them out, and they dont like to attack in a constant stream. They will dodge, weave, duck and dive, attacking in small spurts of effectively placed blows and cuts and bites. They dont do well battling in water, or any enclosed space...anything that hampers thier speed and agility. However, once they decide to end a fight, its common for them to simply aim for the jugular vein, latch on, and using thier tail for leverage, shake like mad till the entire mouthfull of throat comes free. Thier jaws, however, arent very strong, and this often means a lot of missed attempts. Its not untill thier final stage that they gain a muzzle large enough to make this method of killing completely efficient, hence thier reliance on claws and tail, as opposed to most predators use of the jaws and teeth. Otachi and Ootachi are both amazingly versatile when it comes to learning moves through breeding, Technical/Hidden machine, and by interacting with other pokemon. Being normal type, and by that token, all types in one.. they can learn a wide range of elemental moves. This versatility is made less effective by the fact that they do not have a very high special attack strength, hence most trainers and breeders stick to normal type moves, especially those involving the claws and tail. Rootachi share this versatility, and gain an added advantage in that thier extra evolutionary phase provides them enough strength to make more effective use of any elemental attacks they do learn. Also worth note is the fact that due to thier extended limb length, they can perform a range of fighting attacks that they were not physically equipped to learn before, making them even more flexible in battle. Some come naturally, such as Mach Punch.. a punch delivered at high speeds, and Hi Jump Kick... a kick coupled with the Rootachi's natural leaping stride. However, even after such a large physical change, the Rootachi's style remains hinged around the same solid aspects as the earlier forms, and the style is unmistakeably the same. Breeds 'Tachi over time have spread themselves almost world-wide, making good of bad situations in many places. Thier elemental versatility, physical hardiness, and aptness as hunters has ensured them spots in most habbitats, and as does happen, these habbitats have reared thier very own variations of the 'Tachi breed. Here are a few of the more common ones. When behaviors differ to those listed above between breeds, below is where these differences are noted, otherwise its to be assumed that they behave the same way as is stated in the above sections. ~Flat land (Garden Variety) This is the common 'Tachi. Its fur color is brown in all stages, and the coat is of a middling length, coarse hairs and downy ones mingling to form that distinctive coat. They are of a middling size, and are the most commonly used by trainers due to the fact that they accept human ownership easily, breed readily, and have the sweetest nature of all breeds. Thier habbitat is that of open fields, and lightly forrested areas, as they arent so keen on climbing as some of the other breeds. ~Equatorial (Rainforest) This variety dwells in the humid rainforests that line our equatorial regions. They are a great deal smaller than thier more common flatland cousins, with a far darker, far coarser pelt, ranging from chocolate brown to black. Unusually enough, the facial markings of this variety are green as opposed to brown in most other varieties. Far removed from most other breeds when it comes to habbitat, this variety has taken to life in the trees, forsaking burrows and taking up residence in hollowed out tree truunks, or places where limbs interlock densely to form bowers and platforms. The vast majority of thier life is arborial.. they will travel on open ground only when nessisary, and as such, have developed a far higher rate of speed than thier low-lying cousins. They are far more aggressive, having a lot more by way of competition for food and living space, and are almost completely untrainable due to thier vicious and wild temperament. They have a raised mane of fur, flowing from the forehead to the shoulderblades used in displays of aggression.... it is often raised high. ~European This is the second most common variety. They resembe the garden variety in thier behavior, and length, but thier fur and width set them apart. They are a lot bulkier than the common variety, with a lot more physical weight. Thier coat is coarser, and shaggy, and for the msot part, a darker shade of brown than thier close relatives. Shorter eared, and shorter limbed, they evolved to make meals of larger prey, extending to swinub and teddyursa as opposed to the standard rattata and Pikachu diet of thier cousins. They are far less territorail than most breeds, also, coosing a larger territory, but allowing more traffic through it, and being more tolerant of others sharing it. On the whole, they are the least aggressive of the breeds. ~Coastal This recently discovered variety is found on islands in the northernmost regions of Europe, Asia, and the southernmost islands of the pacific. Primarily dwelling on the beaches, and mountains surrounding them, these 'tachi are characterised by thier sky blue eyes, and in the later stages, facial markings. When living inland, they tend to do so on the shores of large lakes, or wide rivers. They feed on the usual 'tachi diets, but incorporate more fish, and shellfish as well as shore-dwelling insects. Thier ability to swim is more developed than thier relatives, and thier tails are longer than any other breed to help them in thier underwater efforts. They have more developed limbs, also and a ridge of hair on the head.. the purpose of which is at this point, unknown. Otachi kits of this variety tend to be less gregarious than thier relatives, living alone for longer periods of time, whereas thier evolved forms tend to be more likely to live in pairs, or even sets of three or four. ~Arctic Like msot creatures dwelling in the colder regions of our planet, the Arctic 'Tachi has developed a white coat (At the darkest, its a very light tan or pink) and roll upon roll of thick fat, used to insulate thier vital organs from the cold. Thier limbs are short, and very wide, and thier coat is thick, and almost wooly. They do not swim, and they do not dwell in burrows, but instead in shallow scrapes made in the snow, lined with thier own fur.. which sheds constantly, and regrows jsut as fast. They are less high energy, and a lot slower paced than thier relatives, and spend more time grooming than hunting. The vegetation part of thier diet has been almost completely ditched in favor of the far more nutritious and very high-fat meats provided by Spheal and Seel and thier evolutions. They are the heaviest of the breeds, despite being no longer than the common 'Tachi. ~Arid (Black pawed) The Black Pawed 'Tachi lives in the prairies and scrublands of most of our drier countries. They are more communal than any of thier relatives, living in groups of up to five adults at a time, and a lot of children, within one 2km territory. Thier markings are distinctive, as they have no stripes, but instead a spotted, flecked coat consisting of pinks, golds, and rust reds.. and of course, the black paws from whence they get thier name. Like the coastal 'tachi breeds, thier facial markings and eyes are an odd color, but for the Black Footed 'tachi, they are a deep navy blue, as opposed to a sky blue, and like the Equatorial 'tachi breeds, they have a long raised mane of fur, running from the forehead, extending down the back. Thier primary diet consists of Nidoran, and Sandshrew, and they inhabbit the warrens of these creatures once an area has been cleaned out. The males of this breed are less likely to wander, and instead, they will stay with up to three females in one family group, holding a territory of only one, to one and a half square kilometers. They are a fair bit smaller than the common 'Tachi. ~Sub-terranian (Extinct) Listed here only for comparisons sake, the subterranian 'Tachi breed is believed to be completely extinct as of early this century, where the last known specimen was found, and stuffed. The thinnest by far of all 'Tachi breeds, this one was built for dwelling solely underground. Thier coat was close to non-existant, as were thier markings and ...remarkably.. hind limbs, which had shrivelled over the generations to allow easier access to smaller cracks and crannies in the underground caves in which they lived. Thier diet consisted of Paras and Parasect, and through this, thier system was immune to most poisons, spores, and toxins found in the Paras, and thier relatives. Nincada, Diglet series, and sandshrew made up the bulk of this varieties diet, alongside mushroom bugs. Its ears and nose were both extended and enlarged, as were its teeth and frontal claws... but this pokemon would have been completely unable to survive in the world above thier caves and hollows, and its believed that few colonies even existed, and they were therefore wiped out by inbreeding, and natural disaster that caused thier homes to collapse, or flood. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Species: Rootachi Type 1/ Normal Height/ 11.5 ' Weight/ 220 LBS The third and final evolution of sentret/otachi. Not all elements required for its evolution are known, hence it has not been seen for thousands of years, and if not for fossill remains, it would be considered myth. Said fossil remains show it to be incredibly fast, possibly the fastest known land pokemon, and one of the most fierce predators of its time. Discovered by: Jimi Rootachi: The discovery of, Logistics of, and Explanations behind Sentrets third stage. On the remote island of Skye, in the seas around Scotland, several fossilised skeletons have been excavated, revealing a species of pokemon, before now, unknown. It is believed that the Pokemon is a relative of Sentret, and Furret... a final evolution, in fact. Skye is a small island, not more than 6km in diameter at any one place, and its based around a small, inactive volcano. Sheer cliffs dominate one part of the island, sloping away to grassland and scrub on the opposing side. The remains were found midway between the two extremes, in what is believed to be the result of a landslide. They are approximately 3000 years old. At first, it was believed to be a new, completely independant species. 4m from nose to tailtip, this behemoth land based creature displays a skeletal structure different to that of any of Skyes indigenous pokemon, and therefore it was believed to be self introduced via either a now submerged land bridge, or an over-water migration from the mainland. DNA testing however showed it to be of the Sentret family of pokemon. Two of the three discovered skeletons are in pieces, at various laboritories, being analised for further information and insight into the many mysteries posed by thier very being.. the third was bought by a mystery collector for millions of dollars, and has been shipped off to places unknown. The aforementioned mysteries are many, and are headed by the one, biggest, and most obvious query... why have there been no sightings of a furret evolution before the discovery of these skeletons? And the answers have not been forthcoming. Its been shown that at least two of the skeletons came from closely related animals.. from one family group. The heritage of the third is unknown, but is assumed to be of the same group, as the three were found almost beside each other, obviously being pursued by the mudslide that ended thier lives, and preserved thier bodies. This being a common factor, speculation has arisen that geneology is a part of what makes this evolution what it is... if a certain lineage contained the genes that made it possible for this third evolution to come about, that would explain its rarity, at least in part. Furret in Skye are rare, Sentret even moreso. Its small size, and inhospitable climate make it unfriendly to all but the most hardedned rodents, birds, and there are virtually no reptiles nor large invertibrates.. there simply isnt enough food to sustain a large population of large predators. The second query is why such a drastic change? The limbs of this final evolution are longer, the body sleeker, yet more defined. The neck, and face are both extended, and the ears are larger. The size increase alone is remarkable. To find the answers to this, we have to look at the creature as a whole, as opposed to looking at it as simply part of a series. Sentret, and Furret are mustelids... omnivores. This last evolution is also, but on a larger scale. Its longer legs are build for high speed pursuit over long distances.. the furrets running gait exchanged for a longer stride. A bound, in fact. The haunches are shaped to enable the pokemon to leap long distances in rapid succession, and the structure of the bones suggests large packs of muscle mass. To allow the creature to retain Furrets quadrapedal and bipedal nature, the frontal limbs are also extended. To make the impact of this speed and movement more manageable, the tail is extended also to allow a balance, ballast, and a turning aid. Its hindfeet are large, with webbed toes allowing a wide spread of the foot upon its landing on the ground, followed by a sharp contraction of the toes as the foot were removed, creating grip and traction, and getting the most out of every jump. The teeth are large, and structured to allow easier consumption of vegetables... moving at such high speeds takes more energy than is sustainable on a simply carnivorous diet, hence a meal of veggies inbetween hunts helps maintain that level of activity, and helps in the leaner months, when meat of any size is less available. Its suggested prey would have to consist of larger mammals, and birds. Because Rootachi is no longer a simple burrow dweller, it would find its normal diet of rodents and birds far harder to achieve. This, is why the legs and stride have been extended. Its size makes small prey impractical.. energy wasting, time consuming, and with too little nutritional value, the Rootachi has exchanged these for larger, faster, stronger prey animals that require a different hunting method.. that of the chase. Dodrio, Ponyta, Mareep and Stantler have all been suggested as viable sources of protein, and its evident also that fruit would make a substantial part of the diet that Rootachi would need to maintain to be healthy. Containing more nutrition than foliage, fruit would be made accessable by the extended neck of the Rootachi, where before, it used to climb to get fruit... a simple reversal of roles to achieve the same end. Its attack capabilities would also change, and develop dramatically. Its been hypothesized that more fighting type techniques would become a part of thier everyday repitoire.. the fingers of its front paws being longer and slightly more dextrous, and with the added width to the shoulder-span, and extra length of the arms, its quite possible that Mega Punch, Dynamic Punch, mach Punch.. and possibly elemental punching attacks would be a possibility. This is strictly in the realm of guesswork however. The truth being, little to nothing is evident from fossilised remains when it comes to working out attacks and techniques. Considering its hunting style, fighting type moves would, however, be very beneficial, especially noting that in the area of Skye where our remains were uncovered, there was also evidence of stantler, and wild tauros.... both susceptible to attacks of the fighting genre. The last mystery is the evolution itself.. how would it take place? Were it a simple level based evolution, there would surely be more evidence of these creatures, as a harsh climate and conditions tends to level pokemon quickly. Its believed that perhaps the volcano on Skye holds the key, with perhaps igneous evolution stones being behind the third stage. Similar to the evolutionary prosess of the Nidoran. Which stone this could be, however is unclear. Moonstone is the most viable solution, due to its connection with normal type pokemon, and no elements of fire, water, grass, thunder, solar', nor Kings' were found in the skeletons beyond that of the normal type, which inherrently houses all elements. However, moonstone being exremely rare, especially in volcanic deposits, points to this being unlikely, and it may well be that Rootachi evolution is simply an abberation, such as wild Gengar, Golem, Steelix, and Alkazam.... which are all simple abnormalities in the wild, as opposed to thier counterparts in captivity, evolved via human-created devices. No furret has evolved in captivity, despite research teams working night and day on the problem, with all manner of stones, items, tradings, training methods, and diets. Rootachi would be a very powerful pokemon, making this research important to all trainers, and battle enthusiasts. Furret isnt a very highly ranked pokemon among trainers and breeders, but the extra stats added by an evolution would, theoretically, bring it on par with the best. Untill the key is found to bring this mystery of the past, into the light of today, researchers will continue to work on unraveling the rootachi thread, and seeing where it leads. For each question answered, ten more spring into place, leaving us so much farther from where we started... but still with a long, long way to go.
